Game Soundtracks We Love: Mabinogi

Game Soundtracks We Love: Mabinogi

Hello to everyone! Thank you for joining us, on our cuppa filled gaming journey.

Last week, we went with a game that was included in the 2011 Operation Rainfall campaign: The Last Story. If you missed it and want to check it out: Game Soundtracks We Love: The Last Story

Game of Choice

This week we have a South Korean, fantasy MMO RPG game for the PC: Mabinogi.

The title for Mabinogi has “fantasy life” alongside it to point out that it is (intended to be) a fantasy life for players to experience and enjoy. Based in the fictional land of Erinn, the player can choose to be a human, elf or giant and choose to do what ever they like in the game:

Mabinogi gives you complete freedom to live your fantasy life. Settle into your homestead and engage in the simple pleasures of a cook or merchant, or step into the boots of a heroic warrior or powerful mage and start an epic adventure.

Your hero, your adventure, your fantasy life.

You can even apply to part time jobs, go on adventures with other players to help one another out with quests and skill building, or even become a bard and play music for people (you could even write your own sheet music to play).

Warning: The trailer below contains flashing imagery after 44 seconds into the video.

Note: The trailer above is old and the game has been updated a number of times since then.

The trailer (above) starts off with a gentle, rather mystical sounding music; perfect for a fantasy game filled with wonderful peaceful places. The music picks up, having more energy with a good beat to tap your foot to – great for building excitement.

Track Name: The Dance of Leaves
The Dance of Leaves track fits the village Tir Conaill perfectly – gives it more character, adds some jolliness while still having a sense of peace. There are also elements that create a sense of wonder and intrigue – works great for encouraging new players to explore – it’s brilliant! 😀

Track Name: With Hyacinth in Mind
I always liked the track With Hyacinth in Mind; rather quirky and made the run to Dunbarton all the more interesting. 😀

Final Thoughts

I loved Mabinogi, it was my first MMO experience and I got rather addicted to it. I ended up venturing around on quests with 4 other new players, each of us helping one another out – it was great fun and I loved the soundtrack! 😀

I spent a lot of time in certain areas, so a number of the tracks got stuck in my head – even now, I find myself thinking about them and wanting to play the game again. It says a lot about a soundtrack when it sticks with you for about 10 years. 😛

A few questions for you:

  • Are there any game soundtracks that have stayed with you years later?
  • Had you heard or played Mabinogi before this article?
  • What did you think of the tracks chosen?

Would love to read your thoughts 😀 – Thanks for reading!
