Game of the Month April

Yep, I’m late. I know I am, it’s May already and I haven’t picked my game of the month April yet. There’s two reasons for that: one is that I’m still in Salzburg, and writing while on holiday isn’t something I have fun doing. We tend to have a packed program for every day, and it’s a miracle if I get any gaming done. The second reason is more difficult: I have a hard time choosing my game of the month. The reason for this is that the two games I played the most have already featured as game of the month: Digimon Story in February and Bravely Second in March. And this month it seems to be a choice be defaulting the others. Let me explain.

I’d go for Digimon Story, because I picked it up again after making my review on GameRaven. I intend to finish the game this time, I’m so curious how the story will end. But it has already been featured, and my own imposed rule is that I can’t have a game twice. Same goes for Bravely Second.

On my iPad I played a little bit of Kingdom Hearts Unchained, but it wasn’t enough to keep me entertained. The only other game I played was the one I bought in a discount in the PSN Store after consulting with you all. I went for Hyperdimension Neptunia re: Birth 2, Sisters Generation.

Neptunia, rebirth 2, ps vitaI played about 4 hours into it, and I’m not sure yet. It hasn’t grabbed my full attention yet, somehow the way the games is built around static over world locations feels a bit outdated to me. Still, the dungeons look good and the battle system is solid. I like Stellla’s Dungeon, a sort of mini-game, giving you valuable items to use in the main game. The fan-service in the game isn’t overwhelming yet, and I like the way the game is built around the background of the console wars.

This is what wiki says about the series:

In the world of Gamindustri there are four regions/Landmasses: Planeptune, Lowee, Lastation, and Leanbox. Each region has a Goddess who watches over it. The game however, begins at Planeptune, a modern-futuristic city. Neptune is the Goddess, though she does not remember and soon she runs into the others. The other landmasses are the steampunk city of Lastation, guarded by Noire, Lowee, the snowy magical land run by Blanc, and Leanbox, a grassy, older age town guarded by Vert. Together the four Goddesses must work together in order to put a stop to the oncoming evil known as Arfoire.

I get that, but still I’m having a hard time getting into the story. And a good story is very important for me. Still, I intend to play a bit further because I am curious where this will go. So, because the others already have been game of the Month, Hyperdimension Neptunia Re:Birth 2 for the Vita is my Game of the Month April.

  1. It’s very obvious, but Hyperdimension Neptunia’s story is basically “Console Wars: The Abridged Series”. Anyways, glad to know you’ve played a bit of this series.
