13th Bag of Pick ‘n’ Mix Games

It’s the weekend, so it’s time for our tasty bag of Pick ‘n’ Mix Games!

The games listed here have been played by the contributors and all cost less than £15, but most will cost less than £10. Games do go on sale from time to time, so if a game is on sale and we think it’s worth checking out; we shall be sure to mention it! 😀

Guacamelee Super Turbo Championship Editon – Nintendo Switch

Jonah’s Pick

Guacamelee is a renowned platform/Metroidvania title. The game was released for Switch in October in anticipation of the release of Guacamelee 2.

In the game, players control Juan, a luchador. His mission is to save the president’s daughter from the wicked Carlos Calaca. The game boasts a Mexican theme, plenty of action, numerous powerups which not only makes Juan stronger but also opens up once unreachable areas. Guacemelee! also contains side quests and plenty of humour.

The game currently costs £11.99 in the UK eShop ($17.99| € 17,99). An extra incentive, of course, is that owners of Guacamelee can purchase Guacamelee 2 for 30% less than the RRP. This deal runs out Monday.

Star Billions: a sci-fi adventure – Mobile

Yvonne’s Pick

Star Billions is an adventure video game by Catch & Release. Not a new game, as the first chapter was released in December 2015. The game is about a hopelessly lost spaceship with four unique artificial intelligences looking like adorable animals. They have fled a dying earth, the chain of command is broken and the AI look up to you as a sort of consultant for advice.

It’s up to you which of the AI’s you will trust for the right decisions, every one of them is very unique in their approach. After you have made your choice you have to wait to see what the effect of your decision is. After the crew has done its thing, they contact you again to give an update and ask for new decisions. This may sound strange, but it works. Mostly because the animals are so very endearing.

The first chapter is free, and you pay for chapter 2 and 3 (€ 3,39 | $2.99 each) but the first one will give you a good idea if you might like the game. I wrote a bit more about it in 2017, see that article here.

Pokémon TCG Online – PC/Mac/iOS tablets/Android tablets

Evriun
Evriun’s Pick

If you like the Pokémon Trading Card Game in real life, or are looking to get into the game; Pokémon TCG Online would be great for you! 😀

It plays the same way as the real card game, just with online functionality (vs or trade players online), as well as AI opponents to battle and challenges to complete (to unlock new cards and items). As an added bonus; you don’t have to spend money on cards, but if you do buy the cards in real life you can use codes from the packs, decks, etc to unlock cards in the online game too – I like buying packs and sets for Christmas, so being able to use codes to unlock cards in the online game; makes it a little more worth the money. 😛

Pokémon TCG Online is free to download and play, it also has a good step by step tutorial to help newcomers become familiar with the game. It’s available as an app for tablets or can be downloaded to a PC or Mac – it’s recommended to check that your device is compatible with the game (Note: mobiles are not supported).

You can check the system requirements and download the game (for the applicable device you are using) as well as find out more information about the game, on the official website: Official Pokémon TCG Online Website

Below is the trailer for the game when it was being released for the iPad in 2014.

Piczle Lines DX 500 More Puzzles! – Nintendo Switch

Jonah’s 2nd Pick

If you’ve been on the fence about whether to purchase Piczle Lines DX 500 More Puzzles then the time to get off it has come. The game’s eShop price has been cut by 30% until 20th December. ($ 6.99|€ 6,99| £ 6.29)  What type of game is it?  In a review, I described it as a game that “requires the player to discover a hidden picture by correctly joining two coloured numbers of the same value together.”
