Bear and Breakfast 100% Walkthrough

In the previous walkthrough for Bear and Breakfast, I covered all of the main story quests and how to get through them. In this instalment, we’ll cover all the side quests, tips and tricks, all the collectables, and how to cook.

Bedside Manner Quest – How to Make Rooms in Bear and Breakfast

In order to complete the quest Bedside Manner, Hank will need to learn how to build rooms. Head to the bench and press the E key to interact with it. In the bottom left-hand corner of the screen, a wheel of options will appear. These are:

  • Crafting
  • Building
  • Inventory

Crafting allows Hank to build new furniture, utility items, and decorations. Inventory is used to place already built items in rooms. And building allows Hank to build a room inside of one of his B&Bs. For the first building, the Dinky Shack, Hank only has the option to build bedrooms. They must be at least 2×3 squares and must contain a door and a bed; any additional items can add or subtract to the room’s comfort and decoration scores.

First, build a bed. Then select the build option and select Comfort from the build menu. Press “Bedroom.” Notice that building anything inside of your buildings costs coins. The minimum cost for a new bedroom is 60 coins, but this number with go up if players choose to add more space than the required 2×3.

Once the bedroom is selected, click and drag inside of the building to construct the bedroom. New blocks can be added by clicking on the area around the room. Right-click once to be able to remove blocks. Press the checkmark in the upper right-hand part of the screen once the room is complete.

Need to remove doors or windows? Click on the door or window in question and hit the DELETE key. New windows and doors can be added by going into the inventory menu and using the plus door and plus window buttons in the upper left.

To complete this quest, create one bedroom inside the Dinky Shack with one door and one bed inside. Then have a chat with Tony.

  • A Common Front – After building that bedroom, the next quest will become available.  He will give Hank the Front Desk recipe. Interacting with the Front Desk will allow him to invite guests to any available bedroom in that building. Front Desks cost 4x Pinewood Planks.
  • Ready Payer One – Talk to Fin by pressing his green button.

NOTE: Need a little more money to make the bedrooms the way you want in your cabin? Check back with Hank’s mom and she will give you money if Hank has less than 100 coins in his inventory.

Meet and Greet Quest – How to Invite Guests in Bear and Breakfast

Bear and Breakfast Walkthrough Ladies Gamers
How to invite guests to your B&Bs.

Inviting guests to any property is fairly simple in Bear and Breakfast. First, head to the front desk at any location, then interact with it. Eventually, Hank will unlock the ability to do this from anywhere, but in the early game, he’ll have to physically walk to each property in order to invite new guests.

Click the DETAILS button for the property that Hank wants to have guests to. In this case, the Dinky Shed will be his only property, so click that one. This will bring up the Bedrooms menu, which displays whether or not a room is occupied and its current comfort and decoration score (as well as additional scores later on).

Click on the menu list as Guest Requests in the upper left-hand corner of this menu. Choose a guest that fits within the parameters of the available rooms; don’t put guests in rooms with too low scores for their needs. This will cause them to give negative reviews of your establishment. There isn’t really a penalty for not doing this, but perfect scores are how to raise the number of people that want to come to stay at your B&B.

The next day, the chosen guest will check into that bedroom. While a guest is staying, Hank can rearrange their rooms and add furniture, but cannot change the dimensions of the room without kicking the guest out first.

Guests will stay one or two nights, then leave, pay, and give a review based on whether their needs were met or not. Pay is not collected until the guest checks out. Hank is then free to rent the room to a new person.

How to Cook in Bear and Breakfast

In order to cook, players will first need to make their way to Highlake and complete a task for Julia, the goat that lives near the old Captain’s home. She will not only teach Hank how to cook, but also sell recipes from the little store by her home. Once cooking is unlocked, Pawn Voyage will have some cooking appliance recipes for sale.

Bear and Breakfast Walkthrough Ladies Gamers
Hiring Julia to do your cooking will keep your guests happy.

Players will also need to build a kitchen and fill it with appliances to be able to cook meals. Hank will unlock more advanced kitchen items as the game progresses. Each appliance adds types of cooking cards to allow for more advanced recipes.

All level 1 appliance recipes:

  • Puny Cutting Board – Adds 2 Raw. Made with 2 Copper Plates and 2 Pinewood Planks.

Julia’s Cooking Station:

  • This allows players to hire Julia to cook for the location in which that kitchen is placed. It’s made with four Pinewood Planks, two Copper Plates, two Iron Plates, two Porcelain Chunks, and two Plastic Boards. It must be placed inside of the kitchen in the location to be served. But this will take some time to unlock, so Hank will have to cook for his guests for himself for a while.

In order to cook, interact with a cooking appliance in a kitchen that Hank owns (other people’s kitchens can’t be used). There are several parts to the screen.

Bear and Breakfast Walkthrough Ladies Gamers
All the locations of the important cooking buttons.
  • A: Recipe cards. You need the recipe card in order to create any dish.
  • B: Cooking cards. These cards choose what a player does to what kind of food.
  • C: Your inventory, to get ingredients from.
  • D: The cooking surfaces available from your methods.
  • E: Methods allow you to change which appliance you are using to change up what cards are available in D.
  • F: The cook button cooks everything once the cards in the center are set up.
  • G: The Loot All button puts the made food into Hank’s inventory.
In order to cook, select a recipe card in A. Then, choose the method (E) and click and drop the proper cooking cards into the center (B). Drop ingredients into the cards from your inventory, then press cook. For example:
  • To make an Egg Dippy, players need the recipe card, 1x Egg, 1x Bread, and fuel.
  • Select the Method Cast Iron Stove.
  • Click on the Boil card, then drop it into the center (B). Add one or more eggs to the empty center of this card.
  • Click on a Roast card, then drop it into the center as well. Add one or more breads to the center.
  • Click on a Fuel card, then drop it into the center too. Add fuel to the empty square in the middle of the card.
  • Click Cook (F). This will make the maximum possible egg dippies based on how many of each type of ingredient a player put into all the cards.
  • Loot all the egg dippies into Hank’s inventory with the Loot All Button (G).
  • Egg Dippy has a food score of 3. No matter how many Egg Dippies Hank puts into a buffet, the score for that buffet will be 3 until a stack of some other recipe is added.

Tips and Tricks: How to Increase the Number of Guest Requests

In order to increase the number of requests a location gets, make sure to build more rooms and fix up any attractions that might keep guests wanting to rent. Near the Dinky Shed is a Luxury Outhouse, which can be fixed up with:

  • 10x Plywood Planks
  • 10x Pinewood Planks
  • 5x Cotton Sheets
  • 1x Logger’s Tools (can only be purchased from Oliver’s Tool Box)

Each property has at least one thing that will attract more people to the site, and Hank can use these to have more requests to choose from that may fit the scores of his rooms better. Higher prestige scores are also a great way to get more requests and get people to pay more; raise prestige by adding more rooms, furniture, decorations, and entertainment spaces.

More Tips for Playing Bear and Breakfast

  • There is a well-known bug in the game currently that locks bathroom doors when there is no one in it. This can be fixed two ways: either sleep through the night or delete the door in the inventory menu at the workbench and put a new one back up.
  • Hank will scare guests unless he is wearing at least two pieces of clothing to fool them.
  • Pick up everything you come across! Some upgrades require tons of building materials. If your inventory gets too full, there is a Bear Stash inventory next to each Pawn Voyage truck to hold more stuff. Hank can also keep food in refrigerators and fuel in fuel containers in their respective rooms.
  • Many of the quests require that Hank builds a “level * type of room.” For example, let’s say there is a quest to build 6x level 4 bedrooms in Winterberry. They usually have to be level 4 bedrooms and not level 5! This doesn’t always apply, but just a heads up that it does in some cases.
  • Don’t spend a lot of time and resources building each stage of furniture for every bathroom and bedroom. Just put in the “bear” minimum until the level 5 stuff is unlocked; you will save a lot of money and resources down the line.
  • Focus on picking up wood piles that have three different colors of wood in them; this will get hank Plywood Planks, Pinewood Planks, AND mahogany planks instead of just Plywood or just Plywood and Pinewood. Pick up the whole pile so that it respawns.
  • Respawn timers for veggies and other foods are pretty fast. Wood and junk piles respawn slower, and are on a hidden in-game timer. This timer does not always appear to be influenced by sleeping, especially in the junk piles in A24. So sometimes it might be worth staying up all night and hanging out in the dump if you are in need of loads of iron plates (which you will be in the late game!).
  • Use the mini-map! It contains icons for all sorts of materials, like food, flowers, wood, and NPCs.
  • There are yellow arrows that will point to NPCs with active quests.
