Cross over game Etrian Odyssey and the Mysterious Dungeon

As you have no doubt gathered from my earlier blogs about Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, I enjoy my Pokémon games from time to time. And some time ago I wrote about my passion for map making and the Etrian Odyssey games. So when I heard that there is a cross over game in the making, combining the features of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon with Etrian Odyssey, you’ll understand that my interest was piqued. So, a Mystery Dungeon game without the Pokémon but with the Etrian Odyssey characters. This could be a game to be on the lookout for. It is expected to be released in Japan in March, no news yet about making it West. But in the past, Atlus, who develops the Etrian Odyssey games, was very consistent in bringing their games to our shores too.

So I checked out the trailer:[youtube=http://youtu.be/ujTUHNpxK-E]

Loved seeing the familiar faces from Etrian Odyssey, but there could be a fly in the ointment as far as I’m concerned. In the past I tried playing the spin off games for Pokémon. I liked the Pokémon Ranger games, even finished Pokémon Ranger Shadows of Almia and I tried my hand at Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Gates of Infinity too. It looked cute, collecting Pokémon is something I like, but nonetheless, I just couldn’t get into the game. To me, it just seemed so random. Walk into a “dungeon” (I use the word loosely because I’ve seen lovely forest pathway adorned with flowers, while a “dungeon” sounds to me like a dark and dank affair) and slay whichever Pokémon you find, with the help of your little friends. The storyline didn’t really appeal to me very much, so maybe that’s why I gave up pretty quick.

Still, I am very curious to see what they will make out of this newest venture. Etrian Odyssey is a great game and though the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games might not be entirely what I’m looking for, if they manage to add some extras like good multiplayer possibilities and Streetpass bonuses, I’ll be happy!
