As Paula and I are both keen on seeing statistics of LadiesGamers, I’ve made it a little tradition to publish figures about the traffic at the site every year. This last week of 2023 is perfect for that. How well did we do? Every year, since I started the site in 2014, the site has been growing. There are even more views and visitors than last year!
So, it’s time to take a look at the year that’s behind us.
Traffic at the site
In 2023, we published 585 articles, even more than last year when we had 551. Reviews, guides, our view on upcoming games each month, articles listing the best off, gaming news and editorials. They were all there, including two surveys and one quiz.
Like last year, the article that did best in views in 2023 is one that was published in 2022. Cities: Skylines DLCs: Which are the Best to Buy? So even though it’s an older article, and Cities Skylines 2 has been released this year, the one about the first games’ DLC still did very well.
Once again, we conclude that Guides and Walkthroughs do very well for us, but for the first time we had a review that reached a staggering number of views. Harvest Moon: The Winds of Anthos was a very lucky review for us in 2023!
Looking at the results of all time, we see that Tips to Play Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town (2020) was the one with the highest number of views, followed by Cities: Skylines DLCs: Which are the Best to Buy (2022) and The Best Switch Games for Girls (2018). Which reminds me, that last one could do with an update!
Like our writers, our audience is scattered all over the world. In total, we had views from 219 countries. The majority of them (51% of all views) are in the United States, as you can see in the chart below. This has been consistently the case; the United States is where our main audience is. The chart below lists the most important countries only.
Rating the Reviews
We reviewed and previewed 406 games this year (in 2022, we reviewed 398 games), so just slightly more. 176 games on Switch, 228 on Steam, and 2 on mobile. This means that this year, we reviewed more on Steam than on Switch for the first time. Of course, it all depends on what’s on offer and which gaming device our writers have.
James was our most active reviewer, doing 108 of them with Paula in second place writing 76 reviews, with Mina coming in third with 56 with Kalina closing in with 50.
As we always do, we scored them in our rating system. Below, you can see how we rated them, with 43 of them being previews of demos, and they don’t get a rating. I’m rather surprised at how many games got a Two Thumbs Up! 82 of them were given by the entire team. That’s even more than last year when it was already a very respectable number.
Interviews, Giveaways and Must-Read Articles
Even though most views go-to guides, reviews and the Best of.. lists, we try to make the content of LadiesGamers pleasing to our audience. Especially those who are returning visitors and maybe even support us through our Patreon page. Publishing the kind of personal stories that we are known for. Like the articles, we wrote about Christmas 2023 or the Summer Holidays. Or the series of YvoCaro Plays en Paula’s Game Ramblings. Most of the time, it is about video games, but sometimes it is about happenings in our lives, too.
To give more attention to indie developers, we published nine indie dev interviews on Patron and shorter versions on the site. Three of them were the result of LadiesGamers being present at Gamescom 2023!
What we also did this year was ask you to fill out two surveys. One is to gauge who our audience is and what their gaming habits are. The other one is about Video Games and Mental Health. You can read more about those in last week’s YvoCaro Plays.
Lastly, we also hosted several giveaways again, which publishers and developers kindly made possible. We did 7 Giveaways on X, and for those of you who like to participate in Giveaways like this, it may be good to know that our Patrons in Tier 2 and 3 have an advantage when it comes to winning!
We did giveaways for Garden In!, Island Cities, Railways, Shy Cats Hidden Orchestra, Hamster on Rails, Against the Storm and A Dark Room.
Best Viewed Reviews
Let’s see what reviews and previews performed best in views in 2023. On Steam, games often go into Early Access first or release a rather extensive demo ahead of the full release. We get asked to preview these, and as it often is just as much work as reviewing a full game, these are also included in the list.
These are the best viewed in 2023:
- Harvest Moon: The Winds of Anthos Review (2023)
- A Little To The Left Review

Looking at the list, we see games that pop up in the top 20 for years in a row. Farm Tycoon was there in 2022, too, and also Lemon Cake and Witchy Life. My Universe Fashion Boutique has been scoring high for three years now, as did Alchemist Simulator.
Guides, Guides and More Guides
Though reviews are our main staple on Ladiesgamers, we have found that guides work exceptionally well in views. Writing takes much more time than a review, but it’s also very satisfying. In my opinion, you can’t write a guide if you don’t really love the game you are covering. It’s not always a full walkthrough; our guides are often tips to get you started in the game. Our readers love them too, so that’s very rewarding for us.
The ones for Civilisation, of which we have an entire series, keep doing very well, like every year. Farm Tycoon however, is proudly standing in first place and Harvest Moon: The Winds of Anthos did very well, too! Here’s our top 20.
