As is customary, at the end of each year I make a nice overview of the statistics of LadiesGamers. If you find this stuff boring, you don’t have to read on. But Paula and I love statistics, so I’m gonna share some Facts & Figures with you.
2021 was a good year for the site. The number of views, that already spiked in 2020, have gone up again in 2021. We decided to not only review handheld games, but Steam games as well. We set up shop on Steam with our own Curator page, ready to help people find interesting games on Steam with our recommendations. The numbers of followers in Steam are going well, and quite some developers in need of a review found us through that channel.
Even though we focus on indie games, we were chuffed nonetheless that we got approved to review games for a couple of big companies. To name a few: Nintendo, Koei Tecmo and Atari. Plus, we also got access as a media outlet in this years E3!
As we felt it was time to give women that work in the gaming industry a podium, we started a new series, featuring ladies who are working in the gaming business. The series is called Ladies in Gaming Biz. When we joined the group #IndieWomen of @IndieLegion we were able to make quite some new interviews.Â
Let’s take a look at the year!
Traffic at the site
In 2021, we published 679 articles. A little less then in 2020 when we published 730, but still, a lot of articles. Reviews, guides, articles listing the best off, gaming news and editorials. They were all there, and this year we added our fair share of interviews too.
The article that did best in views is one that came to life in 2021: “Guide to ACNH: Happy Home Paradise” did amazing! I will detail reviews, guides and the Best of articles below, but I must mention that the articles for the path ideas in Animal Crossing New Horizons for every season do really well too.
But who read our articles? Like our writers, our audience is scattered all over the world. In total we had views from 203 countries. But the majority of them (66% of all views) are in the United States as you can see in the chart below. Almost as in 2020, when the US also had the lions share of 67%. The chart lists the most important countries only.
Rating the reviews
Where we usually only reviewed handheld games, we decided to include Steam games too. So many Switch games first make it to Steam and Switch later on, so we felt it was only right. After all, our main mission is to promote indie games, and they often see the first light on Steam.
We reviewed a whopping 431 games this year (in 2020 we reviewed 422 games!). 314 games on Switch, 111 on Steam and 6 on mobile. James was our most active reviewer, doing 171 of them with Paula in a close second place writing 147 reviews.
As we always do, we scored them in our rating system. Below, you can see how we rated them, with 21 of them being previews of demo’s and they don’t get a rating. I’m rather surprised at how many games got a Two Thumbs Up! 64 of them, given by the entire team. Which goes to show there are many awesome indie games out there!
Best viewed reviews
As I’ve mentioned before, we aim to primarily promote indie developers and their games. We have been in touch with a number of them for an interview for our Patrons. We made an arrangement with Mens Sana Interactive and with Virtual Arts Studio to review all of their puzzle games for them. A very nice cooperation, as their games fit so well with the kind of games LadiesGamers is well known for. That’s not to say we don’t review the AAA games out there. We were very pleased this year when we managed to get approved by Nintendo for reviewing some of their games.
Let’s see what reviews performed best in views. The best one for a game released in 2021 was Alchemist Simulator. And you wouldn’t expect it, but games that are aimed at a younger demographic generally do well on LadiesGamers: there are three My Universe games in the top 20:
- My Universe Fashion Boutique Review
- Cooking Simulator Review
- Alchemist Simulator Review (2021)
- Calico Review
- Garden Paws Review (2021)

Guides, guides and more guides
Aside from reviews, we have found that guides work very well on LadiesGamers.com. Writing a guide is truly a work of love, it takes a lot more time to write than a review, but it’s also very satisfying. In my opinion you can’t write a guide if you don’t really love the game you are covering. Our readers love them too, so that’s very rewarding for us. Here’s our top 20.

The Best of the Best!
Aside from reviews and guides, we release Best Of… articles: lists of best games for a certain genre, collections of games that got high ratings. Or games that we think are the tops of a certain year. We hope they are helpful for people who are looking for a game like the one they know and enjoy. You are most welcome Alijon, and we are very happy to bring these lovely games to the attention of gamers. Thank you so much for reading!
why does the pie chart show the united kingdom as having the biggest viewing share and the text claim the biggest viewing share is the united states?
Thanks for reading boo, and thank you even more that you caught that! You are so right, not only was the text wrong, but upon checking the graph wasn’t right either. All corrected now!
