Fantasy Town is a slick new mobile game released on iOS and Android; it’s a mix of RPG and simulation, all wrapped up in a very colourful package. Of course, since you are reading this review, you must be interested in the game, so without further ado, let us find out what it is like.

Choose your Character
Fantasy Town begins with you choosing your character, which won’t take long since there are only two options, male or female. You arrive in a town to be greeted by Tommy, the cat. Tommy informs you he is your butler and is on hand to help the Lord of Arsendal, which is you!

The gist of the story is that you aren’t sure how you got to the town or why and you don’t want to be Lord of Arsendal. So you’ll try your best to escape being the town’s leader while learning more about Arsendal’s history, including its previous Lord, your father!
But before you can think of leaving, you are roped into helping the townsfolk fix up the shabby town. And one more thing, you must protect the town from a bunch of evil trolls and keep your citizens safe.

Grow Crops
You’ll start growing wheat; pretty soon, as the story and gameplay expands, you’ll be doing all sorts of missions. You can build houses to increase the town’s population. Since this is a mobile game, you will have to wait until they are built or spend the obligatory gems to speed the building up. You’ll also place buildings to increase the happiness of your citizens and decorations around the town.

You’ll be planting various crops to feed various farm animals such as cows, pigs and chickens. Once some time has passed, you can collect the animals’ milk, eggs and ham. Then using the resources, you can make a whole host of items. From bacon and eggs to clothes and bread, to name a few.

Trade and Play Mini-games
All the resources you produce can be traded with other players to earn some coins, and the resources are whisked away by a flying dragon in the dragon shop. You can visit other players’ towns and lend a hand by tapping the screen to extinguish a fire or helping with crops. In addition, you can send selected NPCs to explore the mines and battle bosses to win some treasure.
You can also participate in mini-games, timed events, bingo, roulette and complete achievements to earn gems and coins. So there is quite a lot to the game and plenty to keep you busy swiping your phone.

Dreaded IAP
The only downside is that the game has many IAPs, events and special sales to encourage you to spend heaps of money on the extra gems or coins. The screens for the sales pop up frequently and you are always reminded of the events that you need tickets to play.
I’d much rather pay one price and download the game instead of being tormented with advertisements about another game I’m not interested in in the middle of a game I’m trying to play.

The game’s music is catchy. You’ll probably find yourself humming the theme music later in the day. The game looks well with bright and colourful voxel graphics. Controls are a simple swipe or tap on the screen, so there isn’t much that can go wrong with that.

Conclusion
Fantasy Town is a nice casual game that’s easy to pick up and play. It is a game that could be played while waiting for an appointment or on a train journey to work. It’s a quick five-minute fun, then you wait until the game allows you to play it again since most things are timed. If this is how you like to play games, Fantasy Town is the game for you.
Final Verdict: I Like It
