I’ve decided it’s time for a new feature here, time for Friday’s Cup of Coffee. Just us two, I’ll try to surprise you with my coffee art ( or maybe not…) and we will chat. So pull up a chair and let me give you the news that caught my eye this week. Gaming news for the 3DS, the Vita and sometimes for the WiiU and updates here and there about things I’ve written about before.
Did you know we finally have a release window for Story of Seasons for the 3DS for Europe. Isn’t it crazy how a game can be released in English so many months before in the US, and still take so long? It’s not like they have to make a new translation! it will be available in Q1 2016, not sure yet whether there will be a physical game available or only the downloadable game. The game is the true successor to Harvest Moon a New Beginning and as I’ve written before (here) it’s really the best HM game to date. If you’ve liked them before, you should really look at this one.
Last month I finally discovered Minecraft (on the Vita). I know, I know, I’m terribly late to the party, but hey, better late then never right? I was kinda surprised that the game I nowhere to be seen on Nintendo systems, so I was happy to see that Minecraft in a slightly different form will be coming to the WiiU. It’s called Minecraft Story Mode. It won’t be the same experience as this game is an adventure in several episodes and what I understand about it, it revolves around a group of friends going on a quest in the Minecraft world. By the way, even this one isn’t aimed at Nintendo alone, but I think it’ll be available on all kinds of platforms you can think off, including iOS and Android. But hey, we gotta take what we can!
Have another cup of coffee, and maybe a piece of chocolate? Here, take two, otherwise I’ll just be tempted to eat them all myself.
So, where are we? Oh yes, still a long way off, but the news that the makers of Rainbow Moon will be making a new RPG, called Rainbow Skies got my interested. It will be released in the second half of 2016 across the PlayStation and Vita systems. I don’t know much about the game yet, but I liked the look of the first game, and somehow the colorful design of Rainbow Skies draws me to it. Plus it’s got turn based battles and tamable monsters. Now who doesn’t want tamable monsters?
Another game that’s still quite far away, but very interesting, is Monster Hunter Stories for the 3DS. Still taking place in the Monster Hunter world, but instead of focusing on the hunters, it focuses on a group known as riders. Riders don’t hunt and kill monsters, but they capture eggs, and when they hatch, raise the monsters as their companions. With your monster friend you get to explore the colorful and deep world. It looks very good from the trailers I’ve seen, and where the original Monster Hunter doesn’t appeal to me, this game really does. But, we will have to see if it will come West too. For now, it’s to be released next year in Japan.
Oh, you have to get going? But I still had such a lot to tell you! No, I understand, when you gotta go you gotta go, but thanks for listening anyway. Let’s do this again next Friday, alright? See you then!
Great idea. See you Friday!
Is that Harvest Moon? Hehe, it’s the only game I get excited about besides Super Mario.
Yes it is, nowadays they can’t call it a harvest moon anymore in the west because of a change in the company that handles localization over here. But it is the one and only real thing, and a wonderful game too!
Woah I didn’t know that. 🙂 Look at that, you learn something new everyday 🙂
Do you still play? Or is it something of the past?
I play occasionally. I’m not a big gamer but I really do enjoy this game.
In this day and age there’s no good reason why Europe should have to wait so long for games. Minecraft with story sounds weird, but apparently many Youtubes make movies in Minecraft so it could work.
It will still be very blocky I guess, but then, look at the hit the Lego games are. These might be too.
