Game Announcements at EVO 2019

EVO, or the Evolution Championship Series is the world’s biggest fighting tournament event. This year’s event has just wrapped up with the final stage event being Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

EVO 2019

The main stage games of this year were Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, Tekken7, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mortal Kombat 11, Soulcalibur VI, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st], Dragon Ball FighterZ, BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle and Samurai Showdown. Taking place in Las Vegas as usual and like normal many of these games and developers had new announcements.

Dragon Ball FighterZ

Based on the popular Dragon Ball Z series, it launched for major platforms on January 26th in 2018, followed by a Switch port in September that year. Following a rivalry that had been building up, GO1 beat SonicFox in the Grand Finals of this year’s Dragon Ball FighterZ EVO tournament.

During EVO the next DLC character was announced, Janemba who will be available on August 8th. The Super Saiyan God SS version of Gogeta (a fusion between Goku and Vegeta) is slated to come …. soon. Both of these characters are part of the second season pass for the game. Available on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC. Maybe we’ll get Master Roshi in another pack one day.

BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle

BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle released on Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PC in June 2018. While initially a cross-over of the BlazBlue fighting game series, RWBY, Under Night In Birth and Persona 4 Arena. Many characters have been included as DLC including some from  other series such as Heart from Arcana Heart.

At EVO ArcSystemWorks announced Version 2.0 to launch on November 21st. Four new DLC characters were announced, with five more to be revealed. Yumi from the Senran Kagura series, Blitztank and Akatski from Akatsuki Blitzkampf and Neopolitan from RWBY. Certainly many RWBY fans may be happy to finally get a new character, while the Akatsuki Blitzkampf characters will get their first worldwide debut.

Unconfirmed Platforms

A few new games were announced to be in development. Those being The King of Fighters XV, a new Guilty Gear, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] (an update to the previous game). None of these had any confirmed platforms, but I think it’s a possibility that Under Night In Birth, if not Guilty Gear as well will at least come to the Switch. More information about Granblue Fantasy fighting game, Granblue Fantasy: Versus was revealed as well. Since it is based on a mobile game series, hopefully after the Playstation 4 release comes out we might hear of other versions.

We love to hear from you!
