Recently released on Steam, Geometry Bricks is a puzzle game by developer Marcin Gardyjan.

Move the Bricks or Blocks
In Geometry Bricks, you are tasked with moving two blocks across the puzzle board to the glowing exit. Like myself, you probably think that pretty easy to do. At first, is easy to do but that quickly changes into a challenge and then a bigger challenge as you progress through the levels.
You see the two blocks move in tandem at the same time and in other levels, they move in the opposite direction to each other. That was around the time my brain fried from overuse. I could complete the puzzles with the blocks moving in tandem, but I didn’t find the puzzles where the blocks move in the opposite direction to each other as easy to complete.

Mind the Edge and the Gaps
As the puzzle is laid out on the board without edges, this poses a problem in the puzzles where the blocks move in opposite directions to each other. If you move one block, the other block will more than likely fall off the edge. For me, these are the most difficult puzzles and offer me the most challenge to complete. Maybe you will breeze through them, but not me.
Since that’s the whole idea of a puzzle game, to challenge the player, Geometry Bricks certainly succeeds in that area, even if it proves a little frustrating for me.

Lots of Puzzles to Solve
There are three tutorial levels to get you started and learn the basics of how to play the game. Overall the game has four worlds and consists of thirty-five levels in all. As you progress through the puzzles new mechanics are introduced to keep you on your toes. Such as doors, teleports and traps.
The challenge increases quickly as you move through the levels. By the fourth world, I started to find it difficult to complete some of the puzzles. The best thing is if you can’t complete a level, you can move on to the next one regardless. So you are not stuck on one level indefinitely, I much prefer puzzle games that give you the freedom to move on after failure.

Visuals and Controls
Visually Geometry Bricks looks good, some of the boards are animated and wave effects pass over the board as you move the blocks. I like this as it brightens up and otherwise brings a flat surface to life. All levels are colourful and vibrant. The game is accompanied by an upbeat soundtrack which is very enjoyable to listen to on its own. The game is fully controlled by a controller and it all works as it should.

Conclusion
Geometry Bricks is a good entertaining puzzle game, with some devilish hard puzzles to complete in the later levels. The challenge in the game is set just right, even with the harder puzzles you will eventually succeed in completing them.
