Handheld games at E3 2016: Ever Oasis

This morning I couldn’t resist sharing my thoughts with you about the Sony and Xbox show at the E3-2016. You will find the article here. But, I guess it’s a good thing tastes differ! Now let’s get back to what this blog is about, handheld games. What have we seen so far that looks mildly interesting?

Ever Oasis, a new RPG for the 3DS

Now this is something that looks to be very right for me! If you loved Fantasy Life, and you like your visuals sweet and cute, check out this trailer for Ever Oasis, a new RPG that was announced today during todays TreeHouse Live event by Nintendo. We don’t get to see much, but it almost reminds me of Animal Crossing in style! The game is made by Grezzo, a studio that has been founded by Koichi Ishii, who has previously worked on Final Fantasy 1,2 and 3, as well as Secret of Mana.

The game has you building and maintaining your own village, and going on adventures to fight and gather items. You are the one responsible for stocking the stores and the finances of the shops in your village. When you go questing, you’ll fight in groups of three, a team that you can handpick. The skills the members bring are important to solve puzzles as you go.

Pokémon Go has a date

Nintendo showed some of the gameplay of Pokémon Go, and told us that it would be available for download somewhere in July 2016. So, pretty soon. Shigeru Miyamoto was there showing off the Pokemon GO Plus device, a wearable accessory with Bluetooth link that allows players to discover Pokemon without needing to constantly monitor their phones. Miyamoto revealed Nintendo hopes to have the Pokemon GO Plus device ready by July too, at a cost of $35.

The Pokemon GO Plus flashes green and vibrates to alert you when Pokemon are nearby, freeing you from needing to monitor your phone while walking. You can also throw a Pokeball just using the Pokemon GO Plus device. The flashing light changes to a rainbow pattern if a Pokemon is successfully caught, and red when it fails.

Dragon Quest Builders for Vita has a release date

During their live stream Square Enix showed a lot of footage for Dragon Quest Builders, and pinned a releasedate on it too! October 11 for America, and October 14 for Europe. Really looking forward to this game!

Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse

I know, I know: talk about grim. But loving the Persona games, how can I not look into this related game by Atlus that will be released on the 3DS? The trailer highlights its story, gameplay, battle, and more.

Harvest Moon: Skytree Village

Let’s close on a happy note. In honour of the E3 Natsumé published a trailer of their new Harvest Moon game. The successor on the 3DS of the Lost Valley. I know a lot of people were kind of disappointed by that game, and it’s true. It’s not like a ‘ normal’ harvest moon game. To get that, you’d better play a Story of Seasons. But it’s a cheerful simulation game with landscaping features that I really loved.

Enough for now? Have fun checking the trailers, and happy gaming!

  1. Ever Oasis was a nice surprise IP from Grezzo! I can see Secret of Mana influence in it for sure, with its puzzles and combat. It’s a game that I’m surely going to follow.

  2. I knew you were going to mention Ever Oasis at some point! When I first saw it, I instantly thought it would be something you’d like. I thought it looks cool too. I’m going to wait until they release more information.

  3. I will be keeping an eye on Ever Oasis. I loved Fantasy Life, even if it has lots of flaws, so if Ever Oasis looks pretty cool to me.

  4. I can’t wait for Ever Oasis and Harvest Moon: Skytree Village! I have to admit, though, I had to watch the trailer for Skytree Village with the volume muted. That girl’s voice got on my nerves, lol!! 🙂
