Handheld Gaming News week 36

Hurricane season…and this year one huge hurricane seems to follow on the heals of the other. Harvey wrecked havoc in Texas, such flooding in the Houston area and disruption throughout the state. Now Irma is destroying everything in her path. It already had a disastrous effect on St. Maarten and as St. Maarten is a part of the Dutch Kingdom, it had our special attention here in the news. Now it is making landfall in Florida. As you know, we love visiting Florida, so I’m sitting here with CNN weather news live on. Keeping my fingers crossed for the people in Irma’s path.

Still, let’s try to share some Handheld Gaming News, looking back on this news. Is it just me and my lack of gaming fever ever since we got back from the holidays? Or is there really not a lot of news out there? Well, aside from all the fun people are having playing Splatoon 2 and with the newly released Mario + Rabbids Kingdom battle? Still, we had some releases this week, so lets get going!

Monster Hunter Stories released on 3DS

Another addition to the Monster Hunter universe has made its English appearance on the 3DS yesterday: RPG slash monster collector Monster Hunter Stories was released. A year ago I played the demo in Japanese, and was so impressed that I really wanted an English release (read my thoughts here) I got my wish and downloaded the game. A fun and colourful game, really looking forward to seeing what wonderful monsters I can collect in the world of Monster Hunter.

Lego Worlds for Switch released

Another game that was released this week was Lego Worlds on the Switch. Of course, the game was already out on PlayStation 4, XBox and PC. But now it can also be played on the Nintendo console. The game is a mix of Minecraft, the Lego Universe and other sandbox games, and frankly, it has me curious.

I love building games like Minecraft and Dragon Quest Builders, and a good Lego adventure game is always good. Still, I’m hesitant, looking at the reviews that are already out there. Did you play the game on any of the other consoles, and what did you think about it? I’m curious to hear!

Special Pikachu download with an Ash cap

The Pokémon Company is going to distribute a special Pikachu Ash cap from September 19 to celebrate the upcoming international release of the movie Pokemon the Movie: I Choose You! The movie retells Ash and Pikachu’s origin story and features the new mythical Pokemon, Marshadow.

Shin Megami Tensei mobile game

Atlus recently announced the first Shin Megami Tensei game for mobile, it’s going to be called Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation. The game is an RPG with two opposing organizations. One is the protagonist’s group called the “Liberators” and the other group is known as the “Acolytes.” Not much more is known, but here’s the first trailer.

Flipnote Studio 3D service ends

Do you have Flipnote Studio on your 3DS? I have, even though I must admit I hardly ever use it. Nintendo has announced today that the Flipnote Studio 3D service will sadly be coming to a close. No reason was given, but I guess the number of users was lower then expected. It will be terminated on April 2nd 2018.Farming Simulator will come to the Switch

Have you ever virtually ridden a tractor across your fields? I know there are a lot of Farming Simulator games, out on many sorts of consoles. But Farming Simulator 18 will make its way to the Switch, and that’s why it peeked my interest. Truthfully, I never really looked into the games, but this description really interests me:

Explore huge open worlds loaded with farming activities, across hundreds of acres of land. As is the standard in this premiere series, you will have access to a huge range of officially branded and authentic farming equipment. Drive over 250 farming vehicles and equipment from over 75 manufacturers, including brands such as Challenger, Fendt, Massey Ferguson and Valtra. Wherever you are, you’re free to harvest your crops, tend to livestock and take part in forestry work, before transporting and selling products to create your dream farm!

As a fan of Harvest Moon games, this might be the game to extend my farming career! It’s expected at November 17.

That’s it again for this week. I’m playing Monster Hunter Stories, just started the adventure. I’m still into BOTW, and even though the year isn’t nearly done yet, I’m thinking Game of the Year already, lol. What are you playing? Any new releases that caught your attention, if only to put on Santa’s wish list?

  1. The new Shin Megami Tensei mobile game looks interesting. Expect me to follow the news on it as more is revealed.

Irma’s causing quite the panic in Florida. …Thank goodness I don’t live down there, but I can’t help but feel sorry for the guys down there. Storms aren’t fun.

I’m currently playing through a Visual Novel, “Higurashi: When they Cry”. It’s a slice of life/horror mystery suspense about a group of friends in a mysterious rural town called Hinamizawa. It’s been a bit slow at the start, but it’ll ramp up later on, I bet.

    1. Yes, I feel sorry for the people who are affected too, I was just thinking how lucky I am over here, never having to deal with this kind of harsh weather phenomenon!
You’re early into the horror game with playing Higurashi, as Halloween is still a while away!

  2. I completely forgot about Monster Hunter Stories! I will have to pick it up later since I just purchased Zelda. My city was panicked by Hurricane Harvey, but we got lucky. All we saw was lots of rain and wind. I feel for the people in in Houston and cities near the coast.

    1. And isn’t Zelda amazing? It’s so much more then I thought it would be!
Glad you made it through Harvey alright. Indeed, the people in Houston weren’t so lucky. Only two days before Harvey hit we were at Dallas airport. Guess we got out in time.

  3. Monster Hunter Stories is awesome. I’m still playing the demo and I’m about three hours in! I’m used to 30-45 minute demos but while I own the full version, I know that stuff I collect can be moved into the full game so I’m playing it through to the end.

    1. I jumped right in without the demo, it came out when I was on holiday. Still, like the game. My story is progressing, and it only gets better. I’m amazed at all the stuff there is in the game!

We love to hear from you!
