Handheld Gaming News week 37

A good week for handheld gaming! The Nintendo Direct brought us a lot of 3DS and Switch news, you can find the news that I considered highlights here. But there’s more to tell, for instance about mobile games. So drag up a chair and let’s talk gaming.

Next PopoloCrois game is on mobile

The next game in the PopoloCrois series is going to be PopoloCrois: Narcia’s Tears and the Fairy’s Flute. More info is expected Tokyo Game Show 2017 on September 23. The new smartphone game is said to take place 8 years after the beginning of it all. It features 3D graphics with plenty of battles, story volume and events.

Sega has already assured us that they will keep the series’ familiar charm intact while telling a story of a big fate that awaits Prince Pietro and the Forest Faerie Narcia as adult, after the two go on a journey at the request from the Fairy Queen Media.

Mysterious New Chucklefish Game

Chucklefish Games, the developer of Starbound and publisher of Stardew Valley has teased us with some screenshots from their next game. It’s said that this one will be like Stardew Valley meeting Harry Potter. Now, I’m still eagerly awaiting Stardew Valley for the Switch, never having played it on any of the other consoles. So as you can imagine I do hope they’ll bring this new one to the Switch too.

We’re in the very early stages of development here, mind you. In an interview a team from Chucklefish  had with PC Gamer designer Rosie Ball said:

“We are genuine fans and avid players of farming and village life simulation games, such as Stardew Valley and Rune Factory. With this project we are aiming to expand upon the genre, thematically and mechanically, taking it to places we are curious to experience ourselves.

A school operates very differently to a town. We’re working hard to include what we think are the essential elements of a school simulation while remaining within a familiar format that existing fans of the genre will be able to jump straight into.

It’s important to us that the game captures the nostalgia of school life as much as possible. Expect memorable moments drawn from our own experience that we think players will relate to. (Our team members went to school in different countries all over the world, so it is an eclectic experience we’re drawing from!) On top of that, we’re diving head first into the fantasy of what’s only possible in a magical school. It’s our personal take on the setting, and we hope to deliver something fresh and new.”

I guess we still have a long wait ahead, but it sounds very intriguing!

Mobile game Sky from thatgamecompany announced

During this weeks Apple event developer thatgamecompany known for beautiful games like Flower and Journey, announced a new game named Sky. It’s been five years since their last game was released, all former games have been on Playstation. So, the fans are surprised that this time they chose an Apple platform. The trailer they showed has caped characters jumping, gliding and flying. Looks good, not sure what the gameplay is about yet though. Check it out!

Animal Crossing turns 15!

Last Friday, September 15, it was 15 years ago that the first Animal Crossing game on GameCube was released in the US. You know how I always rave about the series, and I was sorely disappointed that there was no news in last weeks Nintendo Direct. But you see, there had never been another game before AC that has a life of its own. Whether you join the animal neighbours in their daily routine or not, the town thrives and moves on anyway. The animals all have their own lives to live and are always happy to let you enjoy it with them. So as far as I’m concerned: a very happy anniversary to Animal Crossing!

Okami HD coming to PlayStation, Xbox and PC

Now there’s a game that should make the jump to the Switch too! For now though, Okami HD has only been announced for the PlayStation, Xbox and the PC. It will be released in America and Europe on December 12. I’m kinda jealous: I did play Okamiden and loved it. I would like to try Okami on handheld too. But, I can still wish!

Oni Evolution Update in Yo-Kai Watch 2

The American games of Yo-Kai Watch 2 got a free update this week. Once you update your version of Bony Spirits or Fleshy Souls you’ll see these changes:

  • Beating the game will give Bony Spirits owners the opportunity to recruit Jibanyan S and Fleshy Souls owners Komasan S. (Psychic Specters gets Komajiro S.)
  • When you to connect with Yo-kai Watch 2 Psychic Specters and play Psychic Blaster together with your friends.
  • It allows you to link Fleshy Souls or Bony Spirits to Psychic Specters, and unlock a special dungeon with exclusive Yo-kai
  • allows you to transfer your save data to Psychic Specters

As Europe is always later in getting new Yo-Kai games, there’s no news yet about the Oni Evolution Update there.

Enough for this week! I’ll be going back into Monster Hunter Stories, what are you playing at the moment? I hope you enjoyed reading the news again, join me again next week!
