What a strange week it has been. The American election and the result wasn’t something that could be ignored, even living elsewhere in the world. Was there ever a time when it looked very tempting to dive into a virtual world and escape in a good spot of gaming? So let’s get a good cuppa coffee and chat about this weeks handheld gaming news!
Bravely Default, Fairy’s Effect
It’s been 4 years since the first Bravely Default game was released for the 3DS. This turn based RPG introduced a special way of stocking up on your moves while you travel in the world of Luxendarc. Square Enix wanted to celebrate this anniversary by announcing a new game called Bravely Default: Fairy’s Effect. Not much more info is available, but it all seems to point towards a mobile game being released in 2017. Beta testing will be starting soon.
Neko Atsume Movie
A mobile game that has a huge following is Neko Atsume. I have never played it myself, but if you are a cat person, it’s said to be a sweet experience. Enticing cats to come visit your yard, attracted by snacks that you put out. Watching them play with the toys that you’ve put there for them, and ‘ collecting’ more then 40 varieties of cats. The fans will be overjoyed to hear that AMG Entertainment announced that they’re making a live-action film, titled Neko Atsume no Ie (House of Neko Atsume). Sounds cute!
Exclusive Pokémon to Sun and Moon
The long awaited release of Pokémon Sun and Moon is close: November 18 in America and on the 23rd in Europe. Have you already chosen which one to get? This might sound strange, but I mostly base it on the box art and it’s colours. If you want to base you choice on the Pokémon that are exclusive to one of the two games, here is the list, which was published on Siliconera
Oceanhorn will be coming to the Vita too
Not a new game, Oceanhorn. I knew it was available on mobile since 2013 and has been available on the PS4 too. Now it seems this Zelda inspired game will also come to the PS Vita. I’m generally not very good at playing Zelda games. I love the adventuring and the exploring, but I tend to get stuck at the first boss. Still, loved playing Zelda Windwaker with my husband ( he did the bosses!) That’s why Oceanhorn caught my attention, as it’s so clearly based on Windwaker. Maybe a good title to pick up for the Vita.
Free DLC at launch for Atelier Shallie Plus
When Atelier Shallie Plus: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea releases in January you will get your hands on some fun DLC at launch. You will get five costumes and music for the Vita game. You will get the Administrator Suit, the Cosmo Fighter Costume, the Hero Girl Costume, the Plachta Style Costume and the Sophie Style Costume. The free music will be a selection of songs from the Atelier series and all of this will be free for a month. The game is set to release on January 17 in America and January 20 in Europe.
New found fun in Animal Crossing New Leaf
This past week has been about Animal Crossing New Leaf and a spot of Happy Home Designer for me. Have you already found out that, once you order the secret storage room from Tom Nook, you’ll get a bit of instruction from Lottie. She will show you that you can now use the same manner of moving furniture in New Leaf as you’d gotten used to in HHD. A wonderful change!
The update has kickstarted my Amiibo collecting. I never thought the collecting bug would get me, but it has, and now I’m on the hunt for Animal Crossing Amiibo and collectors cards. My daughter is enjoying the games too, and playing together is always so much better!
Harvest Moon Skytree Village
The newest Harvest Moon game by Natsume, Skytree Village, was released this week in America. It isn’t the classical HM series of games, those are called Story of Seasons now. These games combine the farming with the minecraft-like landscaping using blocks. Not everyone was enthusiastic about the first one, the Lost Valley, but I kinda liked it. So, I’ll be sure to give you my review of this new game on here too. Just have to find some time to play!
That’s it for this week. What have you been playing? What choices did you make? Every time I think I have to delve into my backlog of games, but I keep coming back to Dragon Quest Builders. Can’t seem to put it down! Well, the weekend is here and so: Happy Gaming!
Lots of fun news in there! I’m somewhat excited that there is a new game in the Bravely series, but I’m disappointed that it’s a mobile game as opposed to 3DS. That reminds me that I still need to beat Bravely Second though! I’ve been enjoying the last DLC pack for Hyrule Warriors Legends, which covers one of my new favorite Zelda games, A Link Between Worlds. I’ll hopefully beat the DLC soon! Excited for Sun and Moon to finally come out soon!
As always, thanks for reading and commenting. When I read your Panda award nomination and the way you like to socialize as well, I realized I have a lot to thank for in your encouragement!
Watch out for spoilers on Pokemon Sun and Moon! There are a whole bunch of leaks floating around on the internet, and someone has even claimed the full game already via a combination of piracy and hacking!
And yeah, I do wish the current election never happened now.
Many are disappointed Fairy’s Effect is on mobile. I don’t really mind, since I never got into Bravely Default, but I feel their pain.
I’ve haven’t been playing many games lately, I’m waiting for Sun and Moon!
Do you think the part about the Pokémon appearing in either sun or moon is too spoilery (for lack of a better word?) If so, I’ll take it down, or just re-direct to Siliconera. I hadn’t thought about that!
You haven’t been playing much? Not in the gaming mood then, or to much going on in real life? I do play loads, but I do realize that my mind is too occupied by real life at the moment that random gaming thoughts don’t come easy nowadays..
Nope. I don’t find the version exclusives that spoiler-y. I was talking about story and new Pokemon spoilers. Oh, and the competitive community is complaining about the new Pokemon’s stats. I could care less, really, since I play Pokemon because I think it’s fun, not for the competitive effort. I also love seeing what Pokemon they bring to the table every game! Oh, YvoCaro, which starter are you choosing? I’m personally choosing Litten.
There’s quite a bit going on for me in real life, I’m afraid. That’s why I haven’t been posting much lately. You can expect me to work on a new article though!
I’d prefer a proper Bravely Default sequel, but a mobile game is better than nothing.
