Handheld gaming news with coffee week 51

Time for our weekly chat while we discuss the handheld gaming news with a nice cup of coffee. And it’s high time too to sit down for a bit with a scrumptious festive cuppa! These days leading up to Christmas are super busy, aren’t they?

Somehow it feels the same as going on a holiday, you want to have everything clean, tidy and looking as good as can be. All the Christmas decorations are up, almost all the grocery shopping is finished too. The presents are under the tree. The cleaning part though still needs some attention…maybe Santa’s Elves will come to my rescue and help overnight. Not counting on it though, but I still have tomorrow!

So, what stood out to me in Handheld Gaming news this week?

Release date for Atelier Firis

Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey has gotten a release date for the West! Seems the game will be available on the Vita, on PS4 and also on PC. It will be available in America on March 7 and in Europe on March 10. The Vita and the PC will only get a digital release, the PS 4 version will also be available in physical form. Looking forward to it, at the moment I’m even back in the first part of the Mysteious serie, in Atelier Sophie. Still love it!

National Streetpass Holiday

America is lucky, it has another National Streetpass Holiday event. It’s running till January 15, and people will be able to visit Nintendo Zone locations to get more Streetpass data from across America. In addition, Shigeru Miyamoto will visit your plaza too.

Sales in the PS Store

Starting today, there are some attractive sales in the PS Store. For Europe, the ones I like most are:

  • World of Final Fantasy €24,99 till January 6
  • Sword Art Online €19,99 till January 20
  • Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens €19,99 till January 6
  • Persona 4 Golden €4,99 till January 20 ( one of my all time favorites)
  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel I €14,99 till January 20. Part II is also reduced in price
  • Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma € 21,99 till January 20
  • Root Letter €19,99 till January 20
  • Grand Kingdom €14,99 till January 20, full game

I don’t know what’s on offer in the American store, but if you are interested, I strongly suggest you check it out. (Edit: David was kind enough to add the American sales for the Vita below this article in the comment section! Thanks David!)

I had been wanting to buy Root Letter at release, but balked at the full price of almost €40. Now it’s half the price! Oh, and if you were in doubt about Persona 4 Golden, now is your chance!

Dragon Quest XI for the Switch

The brand new title in the Dragon Quest series, Dragon Quest XI will be coming to PS 4 and the 3DS next year. Now it’s confirmed that it will also be released on the Switch! I don’t doubt the game will be every bit as good as Sentinels of the Skye, the tenth game in the series. And what got me extra interested is that the developers say the Streetpass function will make you want to go outside! Intriguing!Dragon Quest XI

Poochy & Yoshi’s Wooly World Amiibo

I’m not one for platformers, as you know. In fact, I’m still trying to get past level 3 in Super Mario Run, that’s how bad I am at those games. But this Amiibo is just too sweet, who can resist little Poochy? The bundle includes the game on 3DS and the Amiibo for $49,99 and can be pre-ordered before its release on February 3 in America. Poochy, Yoshi Wooly world

Pokémon Go iWatch

It’s been some time coming, but Pokémon Go is finally playable on the iWatch. Which should be nice, as you won’t have to bury your nose in your phone to catch the critters! Thing is, I don’t know anyone who has one, do you?

Enough for today, right? I’m downloading Root Letter right now, curious to see what kind of a game it will be. Even with the family coming over to Christmas dinner, these upcoming days will still leave enough time for gaming.

So, happy gaming my friends!
