Handheld gaming news week 3

Hi my friend, ready again to chat about some gaming news? Come on in and let’s see what handheld gaming news caught my attention this week. The first two weeks of the year were slow, all revolved around the Nintendo Switch. But it would seem everybody is over Blue Monday and ready to surprise us with nice tidbits to brighten our gaming life! So, have a cup of coffee and sit down!

Releasedate Story of Seasons

The news that was prominent for me, is that the new Story of Seasons; Trio of Towns has an American release date. February 28 is the date to jot down, no news unfortunately yet on an European release. Select retailers will have the Capybara plushie waiting when you pre-order your game. Players can explore three different towns in the game, each with their own regional crops, animals, and flavors, in all to grow their farms and friendships. Of course, online connectivity is included.

And this time, you can also change into the costume of Peach, Mario or Luigi. Each will give you special abilities. Like the Luigi get-up will make you a better fisher.

Yesterday I opened the giveaway for some Sanrio Cards. You can use these in Animal Crossing New Leaf, Amiibo edition, to get some of Sanrio’s favorite characters into your town. The cards haven’t been made available in the US, so if you want to participate for a chance to get a package, just sign up for the eMail news letter for Ladiesgamers.com.
The specifics are in this blogpost.

Fire Emblem news in Nintendo Direct

The special Nintendo Direct that was aired this week brought us so much Fire Emblem news that it’s almost breathtaking. Here’s the list:

  • Fire Emblem Heroes will be released on February 2nd for Android and iOS. You will see the tactical play like you are used to trailered to play on the go, and choose which heroes and familiar faces join your team or the enemies team. Nintendo has opened an event called Choose your Legends where you can vote which faces you want to see appear in the game.
  • Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia will launch on the Nintendo 3DS on May 19. The game is a remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden, a game that was never released outside of Japan.
  • Fire Emblem meets KOEI TECMO GAMES’ Warriors series: Fire Emblem Warriors is coming to both the Nintendo Switch and New Nintendo 3DS systems, It’s being developed by the team that createdHyrule Warriors, and is scheduled to launch this fall.
  • Fire Emblem is coming to Nintendo Switch: For the first time since Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn on the Wii console in 2007, there will be a FE console game. It’s announced for 2018.

Demo for Poochy and Yoshi’s Woolly World

A demo for the 3DS game Poochy and Yoshi’s Woolly World is now available in the European and American eShop. This might just be the cutest game ever, and even though it’s a game genre that I’m not good at, it does look amazing. You get 30 uses before you decide whether or not to download the game. Here’s a new short film to give you some cutesy overload again!

Stardew Valley just might get a Vita release

Another snippet of news that made my day was that (literal quote from the Stardew site): “We are currently investigating the possibility of a PS Vita port” Plus, the game will indeed come to the Switch later in 2017. But I must admit that a Vita version is just what I was hoping for!

First Etrian Odyssey game 10 years old

This week it was 10 years ago that the first Etrian Odyssey game was released. And what a wonderful gaming series it has been since then! It’s unique style of map making makes every game a must have for me. Series character designer and illustrator Yuji Himukai shared a special illustration for the occasion on Twitter, thanking the fans for their continued support.
First mobile game for girls announced by Square Enix

Square Enix has announce that they are developing a game for mobile that is aimed at girls, called Kimikiri. It’s translated as You and the Labyrinth of Mist. The website shows us 12 silhouettes and not much more. But I guess we will see 12 handsome men appearing soon. No release date yet though.

Atelier Shallie, the last Dusk game has been released

Don’t forget that the last part of the Dusk trilogy has been released on the Vita this week. I still have a lot to play for the second game, Escha & Logy, so for now I will wait a bit. maybe it will get me a better price too. For now, it’s EUR 39,99.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King launched on 3DS

Another game that has been released this week, but this time for the 3DS, is Dragon Quest VIII. And when I read some reviews on the internet, this is the must have title. Even better then Fragments of the Past, that released last year. If you are playing both, I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts!

Enough for this week, I guess! Currently I’m exploring Matsue in search of Aya, in Root Letter. What are you playing at the moment? And what news caught your eye?

Thanks for reading, and have a great gaming weekend!

  1. I’m going to have to download an Android emulator for mobile gaming as my phone I’m on contract with is useless.
I picked up DQ8 and started it while my boyfriend played the Ps2 version at the same time. But I’m going to play 7th Dragon Code III first because I played the demo and it’s really fun.

  2. I just started playing Fire Emblem Fates Birthright last week and I fell in love with it. I will have to buy Conquest soon and pre-order Echos! I like the concept of the smartphone game, but the maps are just so tiny! I already pre-ordered Poochy and Yoshi. I haven’t played any kind of Mario game in a long time, but I did try a demo version of the game on a Wii U display. It looks fun and really cute.

    1. The tiny maps might pose a problem for me. Sometimes I can’t even see enough on my Vita screen with games like the Atelier games. So much text in such fine print!

  3. Played Yoshi’s demo and it was so cute that I preordered game. And I’m pretty bad at platformers.
Also I’m waiting for Atelier Sophie on steam, since last time I’ve played Atelier game was years ago on ps2( ´∀`)

    1. So it’s that long ago that you’ve played an Atelier game? It’s one of my favorite series ever since I first played Rorona. And with Atelier Firis coming up too, I can’t complain!

  4. I love all of the Fire Emblem announcements! I also just picked up Dragon Quest VIII for 3DS after my PS2 version glitched out years ago. I liked DQVIII before, and I still like it now, much better than VII so far. Of course, I’m only 30 hours into the 100 hour VII so who knows what it’s actually like. VIII has a lovely story and cast of characters so far though. And voice acting. It has that too.

    1. So you think VIII is even better then VII? I haven’t picked up either so far, trying to get some gaming done on my backlog. But it does sound very good!

      1. Yes, but 7 felt too slow. I’m 30 hours in to 7 but I don’t think I’ve made that much progress. 8 is a more natural-flowing RPG. Since they’re both DQ games, they’re somewhat similar. But if you’re looking for a focus on characters and story, get 8. If you want a dynamic job system and a unique time travel element, pick 7. I hope to beat both at some point, but I will definitely finish 8 first.
