I caved…and I now own Mario Kart 8

A week ago I told you about the DLC that was coming for Mario Kart 8 featuring an Animal Crossing Track and Isabelle at the wheel. At the time I wrote:

Now I don’t own Mario Kart 8, as I stated some time ago I’m awful at racing games. Or I should say awful at driving in any game (inhabitants of Lego City still shudder at the mention of my name). But this new Animal Crossing DLC looks so yummy, I’d almost cave and go for the game. On the Animal Crossing circuit there’s even a change of the seasons, at one time you will race through the leaves of autumn and then in the next race through the snow of winter.

I got a lot of reactions from my readers, telling me their experiences how they didn’t come in first in races, but still had a great time racing with friends and family. That got me doubting, so I put the decision out there for my family members to decide. If they wanted to play, I was willing to invest, if only to drive around the Animal Crossing track as Isabelle.

And in short: I caved! I now own Mario Kart 8 with the DLC, which is downloading as we speak! So my friends, I promise I will try to drive safely, not drive backwards against the rest of the racers, and not dive off every cliff I can find…I hope I’ll learn how to drift, how to cut corners and how to frustrate my fellow racers. But meanwhile I will first and foremost enjoy the beautiful scenery!

  1. yay!!! i’m so happy you took the leap into mario kart! your post reminded me that i needed to download the dlc myself, so i just did and oh my gosh! isabelle looks ADORABLE. the karts and vespa are just too cute for words. this is a whole new reason to spend more time with mario kart.

as a side note, i highly recommend using a “standard” type controller. i find the racing experience far more enjoyable that way. have fun!

  2. Congratulations!
I think you made a choice you won’t regret. Mario Kart 8 is great in a lot of ways.
The tracks are beautiful and the gameplay is fun and can be enjoyed by everyone I think.

The scooter is my new favourite vehicle. I didn’t have the time to try every new track yet, but I will, soon.

Anyway, have fun and watch out for the blue shells ^____^

  3. So glad you took the leap. I think you will enjoy it very much. Start out slow (50 cc) to get the hang of it and practice. I was able to get all gold cups and almost all 3 stars on all tracks. I read up on some tips and although I’m still not very good at racing with others I still enjoy it. As another poster here mentioned you should get a Pro Controller. I found the game pad a little difficult to handle but then bought a pro controller and that is when I was doing much better. Enjoy!

    1. So far I’ve only done a couple of races at a time, but I do enjoy them. I have two steering wheels, still from the old MK on Wii. But using those I tend to oversteer, while I’m doing much better in the gamepad. Strange huh, how I find that easier? Oh well, as long as it works! Thanks for the thumbs up, Monica!

  4. I love Mk8. Haven’t raced on the animal crossing tracks yet but I definitely look forward to doing so. How are you enjoying the game so far?

    1. I’m am enjoying it, though I do only a few races at a time. Doing too many doesn’t work for me, gets me really stressed. But I’m blown away at how beautiful the tracks are, and how intricately made!
