Just Crow Things a Positive Uplifting Experience
Just Crow Things is a casual action-adventure that comes courtesy of the creators of Rain on Your Parade. This was a game I reviewed some time ago and found it to be quite the uplifting experience where you play a cloud, getting up to all sorts of mischief.
Just Crow Things looks to bring a lot of the positive entries created from that title, but only this time has the setting been expanded, and you now play a naughty crow. I was fortunate enough to play the demo recently and have plenty of positive things to say about this game.
Crowputation
The general premise of the game is you are a little crow who’s looking to improve your status with your fellow crow friends (or murder of crows, in this case). In order to do that, you need to help out the local animals and maybe get up to a little bit of mischief along the way.
Graphically, the game has that vibrant but innocent 3D feeling to it. Character models feel very family-friendly, and a whimsical soundtrack plays as you get up to your crow antics. Your crow can be customized with various cosmetics, which no doubt will appeal to many players, and no, there are no microtransactions in sight. You can even adjust the pitch of your crow’s call, which is some impressive attention to detail.

Fly and Poop
Controls are easy to pick up and flap. Using a controller, you can easily fly by simply holding down one of the triggers. You can use a swoop or speed burst with the other trigger to navigate across the map quickly. You’re able to pick up items and use them, such as leaf blowers, which you find dotted about the map.
However, the most naughty of the lot is the ability to do a crow poop from above. This will no doubt cause plenty of giggles for many. Nothing quite beats flying over an innocent NPC and ruining their day with a well-targeted splat. The game does an excellent job breaking you into the control scheme before letting you loose into the main game.
Getting Up to Crow Stuff
In the demo, I was given access to play on one level. The level is designed kinda like an open world. Which is a refreshing change from the small mission structure in Rain on Your Parade. On this level, you really have free crow reign to fly around the city and do what you want. The goal is to amass a reputation of at least 100 points before you can progress. Or, in this case, end the demo.
To increase this rating, you can take on missions from NPCs dotted about the map. For me, this included finding squirrels’ lost children and ruining a local garden party by popping balloons and pooping on all the guests. Other ways to accumulate points include taking on racing missions or finding various shiny collectables scattered around the map. You can basically have it your own crow way.
In fact, for me, a lot of the fun with Just Crow Things was just flying about and seeing what silly things I could find to do. I discovered a chilli pepper turned my poop into the fire, which could set fire to cardboard boxes and cause all sorts of panic in the city. Don’t worry; no NPCs were harmed in my demo. Much like Rain on Your Parade, this is a game that is not necessarily designed to challenge you but just give you a good, positive time. Missions are easily tracked on the side of the screen, and the game provides a map, making it hard to get lost.

Final Thoughts
I very much enjoyed my time with the demo. I really didn’t walk away seeing any niggles, so this looks to be another smash hit from the developers. I haven’t played many games about crows, but this looks to be one of the best out there.
Just Crow Things looks set to be a very amusing crow experience that will no doubt appeal to players looking for a fun casual game or just want something to cheer them up. Just Crow Things is still in development, with no release date announced. But if this package sounds good to you, be sure to head over to Steam and add it to your wish list. If consoles are preferred, the game is looking to be released on all modern platforms.
