Snatched from Present Time

One fine day a young woman, Susan, was walking through the car park of an underground shopping centre when she got into a little trouble. A mysterious fog cloud appears which turns out to be an interdimensional portal and Susan is pulled into the portal. Not your everyday occurrence in an underground car park!

opening scene

A few centuries have passed in the realm of the Lost Lands and a new threat has appeared in the form of the Four Horsemen: Chill, Flare, Death and Darkness. These Horsemen are slowly and methodically destroying the Lost Lands world. The wizard sets a spell in motion to bring the warrior back to the Lost Lands.

Susan is teleported to the Lost Lands where she embarks on the quest of defeating the Horsemen and finding the Compass of the Worlds (the key to a magical portal) before one of the Horsemen does. For help on the quest, the wizard sends a dwarf named Folnur to Susan as a guide, to protect, and to provide useful information.

Mix of Genres

Lost Lands 2: The Four Horsemen is a point and click adventure game. With all the standard point and click puzzles, you would expect in this style of game. From finding keys to open locked chests, to rooms of hidden objects. There is even the use of potions and spells to accomplish tasks, which helps add a magical flair to the mundane which was a nice change from the norm.

Puzzles aren’t too difficult, as long as you check your surrounding well you shouldn’t have any problems with solving any of the puzzles. Unfortunately, the downside to most of the puzzling is that there’s an enormous amount of backtracking to be had.

Back and forth across the maps you’ll go, and a lot of the item-based puzzles you need to solve can feel like busywork. Such as a haystack has a hidden item in it, but you just can’t brush the hay off you, you need a special item to move it. And even though you could solve this puzzle with extremely fast and simple deductive reasoning you need to find a special clue item before you can try.

Three difficulty levels to pick.

Pick your Difficulty

There are three different difficulty game modes to choose from, Easy, Normal and Hard. With plenty of achievements, collectables to collect such as little figurines and a bonus chapter. There is plenty of variety in the puzzles and the game took around 5 hours to complete.

The games’ story didn’t grip me and I kinda lost interest in it around the halfway mark of the playthrough. That could be because I’ve never played a game in this series before. For those that have played previous games in the series could feel differently about the story than I did though.

Visuals and Controls

Lost Lands 2: The Four Horsemen incredible amount of detail in every scene, throughout every area. The cut scenes in the game look a little rough at times. But overall the game does look pretty good with bright colours throughout. You’ll travel to several different locations, each with its own map and different environments. The soundtracks to accompany you on your journey is fine, and the majority of the voice over is pleasant enough.

Lost Lands 2 is controlled using the joy-cons or the touchscreen. I mainly use the joy-con controls, however, they do feel a little clunky at times. I’ve haven’t any complaints about not seeing the on-screen cursor as its a large circle that can’t be missed.

Conclusion

Lost Lands 2: The Four Horsemen is a typical point and click, hidden object game. Nothing much different in this game to all the other many games of the same genre that are already out there.

If point and click, hidden object games are your jam, then you will find what you are looking for in Lost Lands 2: The Four Horsemen.

Final Verdict: I Like It  I like it
