Lots left on the wish list after the Nintendo Direct

Last night the fans where treated to a 45 minutes Nintendo Direct. Lots of news, the entire broadcast was packed with 3DS and Switch news, with four special games highlighted. If you are looking for a very complete wrap up of all the news of the American broadcast, you will find it on My Nintendo News.

As I wrote yesterday, I had my wish list at the ready, even though I knew there’d be no news about Mobile games. There was news only about Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon, but my other wishes were left unanswered. Oh well, let’s focus on what WAS announced that caught my fancy!

Style Boutique 3 for 3DS

The best news though came in the European Nintendo Direct, that was subtly different from the American one: Style Boutique 3: Styling Star will be released on the 3DS on November 24 in Europe and Japan. No news about an American release. In this fourth game in the series we will have the fashion world once again at our fingertips. What’s new is that your customers life stories may unfold differently based on the clothes you select for them. Sounds interesting!

I know many gamers view the Style Boutique games with disdain, but they are fun to play, cheerful and happy and running the clothes shop makes for an engaging management game. The third game in the series came out two years ago, and if you’re interested to know more, here’s my review!

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon

There was news of the upcoming release of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon: the games feature two new Ultra Beasts, UB Burst and UB Assembly. UB Burst is only in Pokemon Ultra Sun, while UB Assembly is in Ultra Moon. In addition, Necrozma takes over Solgaleo to become Dusk Mane in Ultra Sun and Dawn Wings in Ultra Moon.

When you buy the games early (before January 10) you’ll get 12 Quick Balls and a Rockruff. The Rockruff will evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc and have a special attack. And if you are wanting to buy a 2DS XL, check out this lovely Poké Ball device!

Dragon Quest Builders on Switch

A couple of weeks ago I was exited to hear that Dragon Quest Builders 2 would appear on the Switch too. The original Dragon Quest Builders that I played on the Vita, was my game of the year 2016. Such a grand combination of RPG, building and exploring! I was surprised that the original game will make it to the Switch too, expected Spring 2018. Only a short time then before the release of the second game on the Switch in Japan!

The Nintendo Switch version of Dragon Quest Builders will have an exclusive feature. There will be a Great Saber Cub in the game. Your character can ride it around levels. Now that’s an awesome addition, I’m sorely tempted to play the game again on Switch. Want to know more about it? Here’s my review of the game.

Project Octopath Traveler (working title)

There have been rumours about this mysterious project that Square Enix has been working on before. This is a new RPG brought to life by the makers of Bravely Default through a mixture of CG, pixel art and visual wizardry. Project Octopath Traveler launches worldwide in 2018. If you want to check it out now, you can download a free demo for the game in the American eShop on Nintendo Switch today.

Lost Sphear release date

The RPG Lost Sphear, has a release date on the Switch: January 23 2018. Not long to wait for this adventure with the melancholy trailer and the beautiful music!

New Amiibo for Zelda, Breath of the Wild

A new batch of four amiibo for Breath of the Wild will be in stores November 10, each sold separately. They are the champions that operated the Divine Beasts, and aside from giving the usual goodies in the game, they have a special feature. Daruk, Mipha, Revali and Urbosa give you special headgear with additional functionality for Link. More specifics will follow!

The Alliance Alive for 3DS

Atlus brought us some more news about this traditional RPG that will be released early 2018. The game is already out in Japan, this is the official info about it:

A nostalgic RPG with a modern touch. The game offers a massive world to explore and a story featuring nine protagonists to go with a familiar turn-based battle system. Players will establish and unite guilds throughout the four realms while battling Daemons. The “Ignition” system allows for deep customization and nuanced gameplay for combat, and it comes with some sweet Final Strikes to finish off enemies.

Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth demo

As of today, the demo for Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth is downloadable in the 3DS eShop. The demo lets you create a party of your liking with every character and class available. It has a limit cap of level 10 and will allow you to explore up until the third floor of the tree, but you will get to carry over progress to the main game when it comes out next month. Release date is October 17.

Hmm, looking back there was a lot of interesting content to this Nintendo Direct, just not about the games on my wish list! It still hurts that there is still no word on Animal Crossing but loads of action, shooters and brawlers on the Switch. At least the Japanese Nintendo Direct had some news about Atelier Firis and Suelle! But hey, I won’t be bored anytime soon.

What stood out to you in this Nintendo Direct?

  1. So much great stuff! Feel liked it was a huge missed opportunity to release the Mario Party 100 on 3DS – would have been perfect to put a big compilation game like that on the new system. Mario Party is the original couch co-op – who is getting together with 3DS systems anymore? Do people outside Japan even do this?! I’m confused – the Switch has built-in local multiplayer with the JoyCons!

Anyway, aside from Mario Party not coming to Switch yet, the rest of the announcements were awesome and some of them pointed to more things on the horizon. Bethesda bringing Doom and Wolfenstein to the Switch is great news because it means they are really moving on porting their engines over, which means massive third-party support from them. Square Enix RPGs are also really good signs for their support of the Switch, and Octopath Traveler looks great!

Still surprised to see so much support for the 3DS, but hey, it’s their golden goose.

    1. You’re absolutely right, the various companies supporting the Switch is good news, whether I like the games or not. It’s good that it has such a lot of diversity if it is going to be a huge hit. And it would seem that it’s on its way!

  2. I’m actually looking forward to the style game. I downloaded the demo for 3 and ended up buying it. I was really surprised how much I liked it. Hoping for an American date soon.

    1. It’s a good management game, isn’t it? And even though the happy girls sometimes grate on my nerves, this is never a game to get you sad. Happiness all around, which is good! I’ve played them all, and this one will be a good new addition!

  3. I’m really hyped up for The Alliance Alive and Etrian Odyssey V. I had lost hope than the latter would come to our shores one day, and I didn’t dare hope that anyone would localize the former. So yeah, I’m happy. 🙂

I’m also really curious about Style Boutique, but not curious enough to fork out the price required by the 3DS entries of that franchise. Maybe I’ll just go with a cheaper DS entry and see if I like it.

    1. Well, remembering your Animal Crossing adventure, I’m not really sure if Style Boutique would be a game you’d like… 😀 it’s very cutesy, and I can imagine that getting on peoples nerves. As you know I love the cute stuff in games, so I’m really looking forward to it!

We love to hear from you!
