As I come up quickly on my third anniversary with LadiesGamers and LadiesGamers is celebrating its ten year anniversary, I have been giving a lot of thought to my time working with this amazing community. It has been wonderful to connect with many talented writers, fans of the blog, and even developers over my time here.
Over the last three years, I have written almost 200 articles about a variety of games. It began with my review of the unique and colorful Dabado Puzzles back in June 2021. While I had been writing about video games for years, I was incredibly nervous as I had not often written reviews. My video game journalism career had been focused almost entirely on guides and news articles, so I spent way too much time playing the game, editing, and then obsessively rereading the article for errors. On occasion, I will go back and play Dabado just for a hit of nostalgia.
Mina’s Thoughts on 10 Years of LadiesGamers
I began my freelance writing career back in 2010 or so, writing about whatever I could find work for. My first regular article job was ghostwriting articles for a recipe/family/homemaking blog. I began writing full-time in 2016 and began writing video game articles full-time in 2019. When I joined LadiesGamers, I had been working for Game Rant for two years. While we focus on guides and news of popular video games, I wanted to be able to write about the wholesome indie games that wouldn’t get enough views for a site like Game Rant to think it was worthwhile.
I stumbled across LadiesGamers as I was looking for a walkthrough for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I had just recently gotten back into the game in June 2021 (after losing days of my life to it when it originally dropped in 2020). I stumbled across Yvonne’s Beginner’s Guide for AC:NH and immediately started putting together an email to apply to work with her. LadiesGamers wasn’t a business so much; it was a passion project, and you could see it in every post. LadiesGamers was everything I wasn’t getting from my amazing job with Game Rant, and I have been happily writing alongside Yvonne and the team ever since.
My favorite Titles
Over my time with LadiesGamers, I have written about some stunning games. My favorite titles I have written about are:
- Quilts and Cats of Calico: A cat-themed puzzle game about making quilts.
- Turnip Boy Robs a Bank: A rogue-lite bank robbing game featuring the turnip that hates taxation.
- Station to Station: A gorgeous train-themed building game.
- Stray Gods: A musical visual novel about ancient Greek gods in the modern world.
- Stonks 9800: An idle-type game about making money on the stock market.
- Viewfinder: A surreal game about walking into photographs.
- A Little to the Left and its DLC, Cupboards and Drawers: A sorting game about putting things in their proper places.
- Humanity: A Lemming-like game about funnelling people into the proper locations.
- Season Letter to the Future: A walking simulator about memories and big changes that can change the world.
- Lil Gator Game: A fetch-quest game about growing up and learning to be a kid again.
- Dorfromantik: A tile-placing game about matching tiles.
- TOEM: A black-and-white game about photography and travel.
- HOA: A puzzle platformer about love and sacrifice.
My favorite game that I have been absolutely honoured to be able to both review and do a complete walkthrough for LadiesGamers is Lucy Dreaming, a beautiful, puzzle-filled point-and-click that reminds me of all the Sierra games I adored growing up. We even got to do an interview with the developers, which was one of the most wonderful reads for me. I feel a deep connection with the game and the development team as well.
As I close in on my third anniversary with LadiesGamers, I have some wonderful codes for Steam games waiting for me to play, where I will continue to try to make comprehensive and honest reviews while trying to shoehorn pictures of my cat into as many articles as possible. I have enjoyed these last three years, and I look forward to many more years with LadiesGamers in the future.
