Next Nintendo Direct announced: No AC Direct yet

Pokémon Direct is coming

The fans had been expecting an announcement for a Nintendo Direct right about now. Because it’s been a recurring time-frame over the years. And they were right: today the company announced the next Direct.

It will take place on January 9th at 6:30am PT / 9:30am ET/ 2:30pm GMT / 3:30pm CET, will last 20 minutes and will focus on the Pokémon franchise only. Of course, I don’t begrudge the Pokémon fans the screen time; it will be fun what news Nintendo can bring here!

Where is the info on New Horizons?

But I can’t help but wonder: why do we get to precious little information about Animal Crossing New Horizons? When Super Smash Bros was coming to the Switch, you couldn’t browse the internet without seeing new info leading up to the release. And there was new info about Pokémon Sword and Shield just about every month in 2019.

For Animal Crossing? A few lovely trailers that the fans try to dissect for what info they can find. Because, let’s face it, we still know very little. Will there be shops? Are there other islands to visit? What’s Isabelle’s role in New Horizons?

I can’t help but wonder: what is Nintendo aiming at? Are they teasing us because they know how much the fans are looking forward to a new game? (Remember, almost 7 years waiting!!) I do wonder at the business decision here. If you are new to the series and don’t even know yet that this is the game for you, will you then go out and buy on what we’ve seen so far?

Dare I say it: is the game going to be delayed? Or is this game so full of surprising new mechanics that they aim to surprise and delight us? Remember, the former AC games had some pretty cool and groundbreaking mechanics in the day. Maybe this will be everything we hope for and more. Still, I wouldn’t mind getting some more information!
