Today in Tokyo, the Pokemon Company held a press conference and announced three sets of games. You can watch the whole thing here. They spoke of their plans for Nintendo Switch and for smartphones.
Pokemon Quest
Pokemon Quest is a “free to start” game for the Nintendo Switch and is already out now on the e-shop. This game is also planned to come to mobile devices. It features the Kanto region Pokemon in a cube like art style. It appears to be something like the Pokemon Rumble spin-off games. The gameplay revolves around beating levels with your Pokemon team of three to collect treasure and befriend new Pokemon.
Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! & Let’s Go, Eevee!
A remake of Pokemon Yellow has been announced in two version for the Nintendo Switch. Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu and Pokemon Let’s Go, Eevee. It will release worldwide on November 16th 2018. It features single joy-con play, motion controls and drop-in drop-out co-op play. Battle appear to only be against NPCs as wild Pokemon are caught as they are in Pokemon Go, simply by throwing the Pokeball. There will be local wifi and online battles, other online features haven’t been confirmed. Costumes were shown for either Pikachu or Eevee.
A new controller has been developed especially for this game called the Pokeball Plus. The entire game can be played with it, it has at least one button, a control stick and motion controls. You can put in a Pokemon of your choice and take it for a walk, like the Pokewalker but without a screen. It will make sounds, and you can shake it and rub it from outside of the Pokeball.
As it is a spin-off designed to attract Pokemon Go fans, it has connectivity features with that game. Kanto region Pokemon caught in Pokemon Go can be brought into Pokemon Let’s Go! Presents can be sent from this new game to Pokemon Go. In the trailer there was a tease that a special Pokemon can be gained from connecting the two games.
A Next-Gen Pokemon Game?
Finally another Pokemon game has been also announced for the Nintendo Switch to come 2019. The twitter account stressed that this is an all-new core Pokemon RPG in development. While at the conference they stated it will follow the tradition of Pokemon X and Y and Pokemon Sun and Moon.
*correction* There will be local wifi and online battles, other online features haven’t been confirmed.
Thanks Paige, I edited it in the article!
I tried Pokemon Quest yesterday morning but I’m afraid that it doesn’t quite fit into my gaming tastes. I would be interested to know what others think about it.
Quest seems very….not my thing haha. Looking forward to Let’s Go Eevee and a future real Pokemon game for the console. One day I’ll get a switch haha. Which games are you looking forward to?
