Some time ago I wrote about Persona Q, the latest Persona game, for the first time on the 3DS. Leading up to the release of Perrsona Q a gaming friend had mentioned how awesome the Persona games on the PS Vita were. She showed me her Vita, and for the first time in my gaming life I considered gaming on a device other then the Nintendo handheld consoles. The idea stuck with me and apparently with my husband too, because yesterday I got an awesome gift for my birthday, the PS Vita, latest model. (Okay, I’ll admit it, I may have nudged him just a little bit…)
It feels a bit strange, for me it’s always been Nintendo, well apart from app gaming, but that doesn’t really feel like going to the competition. I’m totally oblivious to anything Playstation (or XBox for that matter). Feels strange, to be a total noob again, not knowing what the apps on the Vita are for, or how the friendlist and the PS store work. a good thing that there are two other gaming ladies in my Facebook group who have a little experience!
So here I am, at the final Nintendo frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship “gaming lady”, her mission, to seek out new games and new forums, to boldly go where few Nintendo fans have gone before!
I suggest trying Rayman Legends to start your gaming on your Vita. It is a very enjoyable wacky platformer.
Thanks for the tip! I’m not very good at platforming though, so I had thought to start with New Little Kings Story. But I got Tearaway as a free game with the console, so I’m starting out with that one!
First of all and most importantly a belated Happy Birthday from me (if I understood that correctly ^___^) All the best to you!
What a nice gift! The Vita is a great gaming console. It’s different from Nintendo but that’s the point, isn’t it?
If I may recommend one game you may want to look into at least, it would be Tearaway.
To me that game is magical. It uses the technical features of the system really well and is filled with creativity, originality and lots of heart.
Persona 4 Golden is one of the best RPGs in my opinion, so that would be another game I would recommend (as well as Persona 3 Portable).
One of my personal favourites is Gravity Rush (there’s a demo for that one).
I loved it for it’s freedom, story, art and the great portayal of being able to fly.
Flower is a simple but beautiful Zen-like game where you play as a flower petal rinding the wind.
The Unfinished Swan is unique and gorgeous in a minimalistic way, where you start in a completely white space and you reveal your surroundings by splashing it with paint.
Excuse me for being intrusive, I’m sure you’ll discover some great games on the Vita you’ll like, but excitement got the better of me I’m afraid, haha.
Looking forward to the logbook entries of the Starship “gaming lady” and her adventures discovering new worlds. 🙂
Have fun!
Thanks, I had a great birthday with friends and family. Your comments made me smile! Clearly I struck a very enthusiastic chord with you, great! I’m enthusiastically looking into new games, and I’m lucky: my device came with five free action and adventure games. So right now I am playing Tearaway, and I am indeed enjoying all the things the Vita can do. I had no idea! So, review forthcoming! One of the other games was Gravity Rush! I haven’t tried that yet, with a 8 GB card you have to be careful what to download. 🙂
So, Starship Gaminglady is really enjoying her voyage!
