Review Chibi Robo Park Patrol for DS (July 2010)

ChibiBoy, did we have fun with this game! I discovered it when I saw an announcement on the internet about a new Chibi game that was released in Japan. The images that where included in the article got me interested, and I decided to investigate. And while doing that, I stumbled on a game for DS that had been released much earlier! Chibi-Robo Park Patrol hasn’t been released in Europe, and was only available at WallMart in The US, for the low price of $ 15.

The plot in this DS adventure is that a pollution epidemic is transforming the local park into a contaminated wasteland while playground equipment in the park is disappearing mysteriously. It’s up to Chibi-Robo to return the park to its former glory and defeat Sergeant Smogglor. Chibi-Robo gets to flex his mechanical muscles in interesting ways. He rides buggies, cars and boats across lawns and ponds, fights mysterious enemies with his trusty squirter, dances in the park to give life to the plants there and builds playground equipment to make the park a better place.

Chibi Robo, Park Patrol, Chassy, pop, FizzAs Chibi progresses in this green adventure, he’ll meet all sorts of colorful characters, like marionette Francois, football mascot Bull, and soda “spokesanimals” Pop and Fizz. If Chibi befriends these toys, they will help him in his quest to fix the park.

It all sounds simple, right? But it’s such a happy game, and a surprising one too: you never know what’s around the corner, the story is very interesting and the colorful characters Chibi meets will make you smile. For me, it was a most endearing sight to watch Chibi’s little legs pumping around when he rode his bicycle. The ladies on the Ladies&Gaming site all fell in love with him, and we are eagerly hoping that the new DS game will reach us in the west too.
