Shadowhand Solitaire is a 2024 casual solitaire game developed and released by Grey Alien Games.

The Premise of Shadowhand Solitaire

Shadowhand Solitaire is a solitaire-only edition of Shadowhand: RPG Card Game with no turn-based combat. The game presents the story of Lady Cordelia Darkmoor, a courageous young aristocrat who takes on the role of the notorious highwaywoman Shadowhand.

Gameplay

The gameplay in Shadowhand Solitaire is similar to Regency Solitaire and Regency Solitaire II  games that Grey Alien Games released previously. Storywise, the games are connected very loosely. Shadowhand can be seen as a prequel to the Regency games, with the story set in the 1770s in England. The story is spread across 22 chapters, each with several levels. Each chapter shows a different location—from stormy coastlines to mysterious woods and gloomy manors—and has its brand of foes.

As the game progresses, we have mini-goals to fulfil on some levels – do a chain combo or collect a certain amount of points. Each level gets us stars – a maximum of 3 stars. In relaxed mode, we can still get to the next chapter, even if we haven’t gotten stars on each level.

The game has three play modes: relaxed, normal, and hard. In addition to the usual solitaire levels, there are “duel” levels, where successfully solving a solitaire means victory against a foe. In relaxed mode, victory is always guaranteed in duel levels.

Much like in the other games, a fun addition is the customization option – in this case, Shadowhand’s costume and abilities. After each duel, we loot our defeated foe, but we also have access to a “shoppe” where we can buy passive and active skills, weapons, and clothes for Lady Darkmoor’s alter ego, Shadowhand. The abilities range from eliminating two cards at the beginning of a level to the ability to shuffle them, transform a card into a more useful one and so on.

Like the Regency Solitaire games, Shadowhand Solitaire once again features a pleasant classical soundtrack and gorgeous artwork.

Some Other Things

Shadowhand Solitaire has Steam achievements but no trading cards yet. The game has basic audio and video settings. The game has an auto-saving system, and you can start a new game at any point.

Conclusion

I’ve been a fan of the Regency Solitaire games for a while, and Shadowhand Solitaire is a welcomed addition to the series. I’ve also played the original version of the game, with the real-time combat, and while I really liked it, I can see why some people prefer the new Shadowhand Solitaire version. If you like solitaire, you’ll love this one.

Final Verdict: Two Thumbs Up: Two thumbs up
