SunnySide is an upcoming cosy dating and farming sim coming to Steam on June 14th. In SunnySide, you experience the tranquillity of the Japanese countryside while assisting Sparky in rediscovering lost memories in this modern farming and life simulator. Create a flourishing homestead, form new friendships, and pursue your own happiness.

Get in the Style with SunnySide
I have such a deep appreciation for games that allow for a wide range of character customisation choices. It brings me immense joy to be able to adjust everything from hairstyles to eye colours to outfits – the more options, the better. SunnySide truly excels in this aspect, offering endless possibilities for personalizing your character.
I must admit, when I first begin playing a new game, I find myself getting lost in the customization process for much longer than the actual gameplay itself. It’s just so satisfying to create a character that truly reflects my own unique style and personality.

Games Modes
The game offers three unique game modes for you to choose from based on your preferred pace. If you enjoy a more relaxed experience, Cozy mode is perfect for unwinding and chilling without any added stress. On the other hand, RPG mode presents a greater challenge with slower XP gain and normal crop quality. For those seeking a customized experience, the Custom mode allows you to blend elements from both modes. During my time playing the demo, I chose Cozy mode as it resonated with the kind of gameplay I enjoy.

Phones, Phones Everywhere!
Have you ever noticed how technology seems to be everywhere you turn? It can feel overwhelming at times, especially with phones constantly in our hands. In SunnySide, the mobile phone within the game serves as a hub for staying connected with your brother, completing quests, checking on plants, and managing various game tasks.
While I appreciate the convenience of having everything consolidated into the in-game mobile device, I also play video games as a way to disconnect from the constant presence of my phone. It’s nice to have a break from the constant notifications and distractions that come with always being connected. Sometimes, it’s important to find moments of peace and escape in the virtual world so I found the ingame mobile phone manageable but a mechanic I wasn’t overly thrilled with.

Oh, Glitches
As a player testing out the demo, I was prepared for some glitches and issues to arise. However, I encountered a plethora of them that made my experience with the demo quite challenging. For example, certain assets would inexplicably clip into the background and character animations would sometimes appear awkward or unnatural. This made it difficult to immerse myself in the game world fully. Additionally, I found the key controls to be somewhat cumbersome, and it was often a struggle to select the appropriate tool needed for a specific task. Despite these obstacles, I remain hopeful that the developers will address these issues before the final release.
I really appreciate the effort that went into this game, but one thing that really bothered me was that there wasn’t an option to save the game. It was frustrating to have to start all over again if I closed the game. However, I read that this issue has been addressed in a recent update, for which I am grateful.
In addition, I would love to see a manual save feature added to the game. While it’s nice that the game currently saves when you go to sleep, having the ability to save manually would be a great convenience. It would be helpful for those times when I need to leave the game quickly for an appointment or other commitment.
Final Thoughts
SunnySide shows a lot of potential, but like many things, it’s not without flaws. However, I am hopeful that these issues can be addressed and fixed before the final release. One aspect that I appreciate is the ability to customize the gameplay to meet individual needs alongside the vast array of character customisation options available. Moving forward, I truly hope that a manual save option can be incorporated in the future, as this is a feature that many players find essential in gaming experiences.
Given that RainyGames is making its debut with this title, I must say that I am impressed by their efforts. It’s always challenging to introduce a first game to the market, but there is also room for growth and enhancement. I look forward to witnessing the evolution of SunnySide and the potential improvements that will surely come in future projects from RainyGames.
SunnySide will be released on Steam on June 14th 2024, and you can wishlist it here.
