SwayBods Early Impressions

A review code was used with many thanks to Seema Datar.

SwayBods is a short-and-sweet puzzle game. It’s designed to make you think through how to move little critters around in order to collect stars and get everyone swinging without having any of the critters collide.

Impressions of SwayBods

SwayBods is a fairly simple, minimalist puzzle game. In order to play, you just have to move each of the little monsters with the right timing to make sure that none of them will hit each other. You just have to click on them and pay attention to which direction the little faces are facing so they don’t smack into each other and make you start over. Different kinds of monsters move in different directions and at different speeds, so you may have to experiment first to get it.

Heck yeah!

Thankfully, it’s super fast to start the puzzle again; you don’t have to watch a cutscene or anything to start again. The only other rule when playing SwayBods is that you want to collect as many stars as possible. There are three in every level, and the level won’t show the next star before you have collected the one currently on the screen. And that’s everything you need to know about how to play.

Gotta get the top middle one moving first to get the stars.

The Look and Feel of SwayBods

SwayBods is a very simple, very minimalist type of game, and I appreciate that. A lot went into the movement, making the puzzle interesting, and less went into having mind-blowing graphics. All the time spent on this little puzzle game went into the types of polish that make a game like this one very satisfying, and I am rather pleased with the overall feel of SwayBods.

They are absolutely going to crash into one another.

The sound design was fine, the color combinations were never grating or eye-watering. The little critters are adorable. It’s very cartoony and kid-friendly. Some of the puzzles were surprisingly difficult but nothing insanely hard. Overall, it felt like a nice, relaxing time wiggling monsters back and forth.

There were a lot of levels, and each of them was different, challenging, unique, and colorful. I really liked the whole concept of this game as well as its pretty stellar execution. There’s nothing like taking a simple premise and just doing it really, really well.

It has a ton of levels, too.

Final Thoughts

SwayBods is not a game I would usually play. I enjoy puzzle games of a different variety most of the time. But for the type of game it is, SwayBods is super fun, colorful, clean, and well-put together. SwayBods is polished, has no bugs that I came across, and features a ton of content. Overall, this cute little game is a great way to blow off some steam. It’s the perfect game to mess around with while listening to a podcast or an audiobook.

As yet, SwayBods does not have a confirmed release date. However, you can find the SwayBods Steam page here, and if you are interested in it, add the game to your wishlist.
