Time to look at the upcoming new release games on our favourite handheld, the Nintendo Switch, for July 2023. Plus, we also feature Upcoming Steam games. For those of you who prefer gaming on Steam!
Not all games to be released are on the list here. Alternatively, you will see games that the other gaming sites don’t mention. We are taking notice of these games. You can expect reviews for many of them if given half a chance! It should be noted that unless we have some personal experience with the game, there’s a link to the descriptions on the Nintendo website.
The Past Within – July 6th
The Past Within is the first co-op-only point-and-click adventure set in the mysterious world of Rusty Lake. In this co-op experience, you play together with a friend, one in The Past, the other in The Future. Work together to solve the puzzles and help Rose set her father’s plan in motion! Both players will experience their environments in two different dimensions: 2D as well as in 3D, which is a first-time experience in the Rusty Lake universe!
James reviewed The Past Within and said this in his conclusion.
The Past Within was a lovely surprise. I’m not the biggest fan of point-and-click games these days, but by adding a co-op spin and playing with two great fellow gamers, I found myself hooked on the experience. This is exactly what I love about indie developers. While they certainly lack the budget, it’s here where we see innovation in gaming. The Past Within is well worth purchasing, even if you must buy an extra copy for a friend to experience. While the experience is short, it will likely stay in your gaming memories for many years to come.
City Limits – July 6th
City Limits is a relaxing tile-based puzzle game where you build cities on a desolate island. Place tiles strategically to create a cascading spread of new structures. Cover the island as efficiently as you can before the land becomes unusable. There is no way to lose. Just chill and build.
Paula reviewed City Limits and said this in her conclusion.
City Limits has similarities to Islanders, only on a much smaller scale. It’s a game to chill out with. It is not particularly long or complex, so playing it in short bursts with a cup of coffee makes it an ideal time killer.
Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg – July 13th
It’s not about saving the world. In this leisure adventure RPG, failing student Marie pursues alchemy, adventures, and quests while aiming to graduate in five years. Atelier Marie, the origin of the Atelier series, has been remade with new elements.
I reviewed Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg and wrote this:
Nowadays, we are used to the grand adventures of Ryza and company, and you can’t escape the fact that Atelier Marie is a more basic game. It focuses less on battles and exploration, and there might come a point in those five years of gameplay when you really miss new things to explore or items to make.
What makes this game worth playing? Managing time and money, setting your Fairies to work as efficiently as possible and working with friends. It’s the events that add colour to the storyline and will keep you engaged to meet as many of the criteria as you can. Gust did a great job bringing us the Atelier Marie Remake. It gives new life to a 26-year-old title, bringing a new kind of gameplay to the table for gamers used to the later Atelier games.
Ember Knights – July 18th
Ember Knights is an action rogue-lite for 1-4 players where you play as legendary knights, the last spark of hope against the mad sorcerer Praxis and his hordes of unwavering fiends. Wield weapons & skills, build synergies with game-changing relics and free the universe of Praxis’ corruption.
Might & Magic Clash of Heroes Definite Edition
Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes is a unique mix of puzzle, strategy and RPG: Plan your every move and combine your attacks to defeat your enemies in matching puzzle-inspired battle scenarios, and upgrade your heroes and creatures to unleash increasingly devastating attacks onto your opponents, and let the strategic thinker in you lead your troops to victory.
Whether solo or duo, online or offline, mix and match your units to defeat your enemies in this Definitive Edition of Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes.
Pikmin 4 – July 21st
On a peculiar faraway planet, a group of space travellers are stranded and awaiting rescue. Are you the right rescuer for the job? Pick up their SOS signals and explore an uncharted world inhabited by a curious crop of creatures.
Thankfully, some of them are friends, not foes! Meet the Pikmin – these spirited helpers might be small in stature, but boast strength in numbers. Grow, gather and guide them to tackle tasks big and small.
Explore, hunt for treasure in vast open areas, battle wild critters, solve puzzles and rescue the stranded travellers together.
Mr Run and Jump – July 25th
In this electric 2D platformer, help Mr Run and Jump defeat the terrifying Void and collect all the Power Gems from the Realms of Color! Joined by his trusty pal Leap the Dog, the duo must venture through a dazzling and dangerous world, dodging countless enemies and conquering hundreds of fierce platforming challenges to save the day!
Mr Run and Jump draws you in with the precise level design, free-flowing gameplay, and formidable challenge. Silky controls encourage players to run, dash, double jump, and roll to clear levels with style, making it a speedrunner’s dream. Collectables hidden in tough-to-reach spots demand players use their wits and dexterity. Dynamic Assistance options allow players to set the level of difficulty they want. No matter how you play, Mr Run and Jump offers engaging gameplay options to players of varying skill levels and approaches.
James reviewed the game and gave it an I Like It:
Mr Run and Jump scores a deserved recommendation thanks to its excellent and simple fun to the point gameplay. But I don’t recommend this for everyone. If you have been put off by precision platformers before, this game will not win you over. This appeals to the dedicated platform fans, streamers and of course speedrunners.
Radiant Tale – July 27th
Join the CIRCUS!
Tifalia’s comfortable life is turned upside down upon a chance encounter with the performers of CIRCUS. Their lack of success leads them to recruit her as their producer to help them on the road.
Will this fanciful group bring joy to the people and free the Prince of their world from his curse? Or are they doomed to failure?
Caroline reviewed the game And Liked it a Lot:
I want to mention that Radiant Tale has focussed a lot more on world-building and visual designs than on the plots of the routes. This makes the overall topics of the routes more about accomplishing things through the power of love and friendships. I was not at all bothered by this, but if you have a need for a strong plot this might not be the game for you. But I really loved the game
Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara – July 27th
Traverse wild islands, dodge cunning traps, and defeat the knarrrrrliest pirate bosses in this loving tribute to classic platforming adventures.
Unlock an archipelago piece by piece. From sandy beaches to bubbling volcanoes, there’s no shortage of charming and colourful islands to visit, each one chock full with secrets and collectables. Each level offers beautiful visuals rich with detail and depth.
Relax and unwind – or knuckle down and challenge yourself! From newcomers to speedrunners, Koa and the Five Pirates is a buccaneering adventure for all.
Venba -July 31st
Venba is a short narrative cooking game where you play as an Indian mum who immigrates to Canada with her family in the 1980s. Players will cook various dishes, restore lost recipes, hold branching conversations, and explore this story about family, love, loss, and more.
Stylized art and a distinctive colour palette bring the food and story to life! So good you can almost taste it. Moreover, lo-fi beats! Our unique original soundtrack is inspired by and pays homage to Tamil music throughout the ages. An In-game radio will play songs as you cook and make you feel like you are stepping into this family’s kitchen.
