Would you like a sequel to Rune Factory 4?

Have you ever played a Rune Factory game? Or have you stayed away from the fearing the farming element in this Harvest Moon spin off. You shouldn’t have, as this game has all the elements of a good RPG. Yes, you farm, to earn money and to get ingredients. But you battle too, exploring area after area gathering materials and fighting enemies. And with those crops and materials you can earn money, needed to buy a forge to make your weapons better. Or you can buy a stove and use the ingredients to make potions to sustain you in battle. For me, it’s an even better fit then the Harvest Moon games themselves.

Rune factory-story of the season- farming RPG- fantasy life

A year ago this December the last game, Rune Factory 4, made its way into the European eShop as a downloadable game only. You couldn’t buy it in stores, which is sad as the game deserves better. In the US it was released earlier, both physical and digital. Problem was that Neverland – the original developer of the series – was forced to close its doors shortly after the release of Rune Factory 4. Such a pity, I would have loved to see more of them.

It seems there is still hope though. XSEED, who is the publisher of the series, has apparently giving it some thought. Ken Berry, who is the VP at XSEED, recently said in an interview with Destructoid:

There are continuing discussions on how to keep the Rune Factory series going, despite Neverland, the original developers, no longer being around. Hopefully, something will come of that in the not too distant future, because Rune Factory 4 was the best-selling title in the series, I believe, and it’s a series that’s been growing and growing over the years. Marvelous knows fans are clamoring for a sequel and are looking for ways to make it happen.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed!

  1. I’ve been a Harvest Moon fan my whole life so I decided to give RF a try some many years ago. It never stuck with me, though. I’m really tempted to try picking it back up again since I love RPGs. Who knows? Maybe there will be a spark this time 😉

    1. I hope so! The only thing that bothers me about RF4 is that they’ve made the artwork in the graphics so detailed and beautiful, that it’s a bit small for my eyes!
