Time to sit down for another YvoCaro Plays. As always, these blurbs are mostly about the video games I’m currently playing. Unedited thoughts that spring up in my mind, mostly game related. And sometimes a random train of thoughts starting with the game and ending somewhere completely different. If you like these bits of gaming thoughts you can find the previous ones here
A special weekend ahead
Four months ago I mentioned to you that we had settled our daughter in in her small bedroom in a flat in London. She was starting her internship in a company called Lickalix that specialises in natural, healthy handmade ice lollies. She would be working on their media campaigns and experiencing being abroad for a longer stretch of time.
Well, we have another special weekend ahead, as we are once again travelling to London. This time, to pick er up again! She did well, and we stayed in touch daily over FaceTime. But as you can imagine, this mother hen is glad to have her chick home again.
Bestest Friends on Pokémon Go
I wonder if many people are still playing Pokémon Go? To be honest, I’m not. But my real-life best friend is still avidly collecting pokémon. She is not an avid gamer, but Pokémon Go struck a chord. For her, it’s an excellent way to have fun while walking her dog. So she is now level 38! I am a measly level 26.
Just for her, I logged into the game weeks on end, a couple of times a week. During my bus ride I spinned some Pokéstops to get gifts. Which I would then send on to her. And this week, lo and behold, our virtual friendship progressed to the highest level. We opened the last gift and were promoted to best friends. She had warned me beforehand to use a lucky egg when that happened, which meant I raked in 200.000 experience points. Very nice!
Update for My Time at Portia
Last week I detailed the update to My Time at Portia. A fellow writer, who is still on the fence about the game, asked me if it worked. Well, it did work, but now some other things are slightly off. Nothing to inhibit a good time playing though. It’s just that the game is so detailed and big I can imagine it’s difficult getting it all perfectly right
Let’s remember this isn’t an AAA title with a nearly unlimited crew to work on it. I think when you tinker on one end of such a detailed huge game, something on the other end is easily affected. What still keeps me in awe is that eye for detail. A news bulletin board with real articles where you yourself are mentioned. Articles that tell about my battles with the mini boss. Me walking in town, and seeing the news reporter taking pictures in the town. I just put up a clock in my yard, that gives the accurate time. A cabinet with glass doors, that actually shows what you put in.
In my opinion, there aren’t many games that do that. Animal Crossing was one of them and I couldn’t get enough of actually letting the washing machine run or spin the mixer. To me, the mark of an excellent game!
I’ve been playing 2 years and have no friends on Pokémon Go, is there a way to exchange IDs with fellow players here? Would love to have other female friends who play.
It’s difficult I know to find friends after a game has been out so long. But, your message is up, so good luck!
