Time to sit down for another YvoCaro Plays. As always, these blurbs are mostly about the video games I’m currently playing. Unedited thoughts that spring up in my mind, mostly game related. And sometimes a random train of thoughts starting with the game and ending somewhere completely different. If you like these bits of gaming thoughts you can find the previous ones here
No fan of Mario
You know I’m a Nintendo fan right? The fact that LadiesGamers.com pretty much revolves around Nintendo handhelds is proof of that. I think Nintendo manages to keep their brand family friendly in a gaming market where real life graphics (and real life gore) are getting to be the norm. So, what is the first people think of while thinking of Nintendo? Right: Mario!
Well, I have a confession to make. Paige’s recount of yesterdays Nintendo Direct about Mario Maker made me think of this. (Want to know what news there was? The article is here) I don’t really like the Mario kind of games. It’s not that I have something against the mustached plumber. I like him and his brother Luigi, he is so sweet to go and rescue the Princess Peach again and again, where other guys would have surely tired of the task already (seriously, can’t that girl stay out of trouble?)
Stubborn streak of going against mainstream sentiment
It’s not that I haven’t tried liking his games. My gaming friends can testify to the fact that I really did my best to like them. I’ve tried playing Super Mario Bros 2 on the 3DS, and even made it through a couple of levels with the help of a good gaming friend. I’ve played some Mario 3D Land and even bought a guide for it. I tried Paper Mario, and liked it, but just couldn’t make it through the levels. See, I did my best and spared no effort. But I just cannot get into the games, and the fact that I’m not very good at it doesn’t help. The only one I stuck to was Mario & Luigi Bowser’s inside story, and I even managed to almost finish it.
Maybe it has to do with the type of games he appears in. Running, jumping and frantically button mashing it’s just not for me. Or maybe it’s simply my stubborn streak of going against the mainstream sentiments. Close friends will verify that is one of my flaws. But no matter the cause: I just don’t like Mario games. When one of my gaming buddies heard this he remarked: “that’s just like going to a candy store and not liking candy!” A very apt description!
Update My Time at Portia is here!
On another note: don’t you think it’s annoying how you can’t see the updates on the Switch? It gives a little notification in the left upper corner about updates that came in. But that is gone so quickly that you can’t even read what game it was for, let alone what was updated. With a much awaited update like for My Time at Portia I’m happy to give you the list. Things fixed, optimisations of all sorts and even new additions to an already huge simulation game.
Due to my real life work and deadlines there I haven’t yet had time to check out the effects of the update myself. I don’t doubt though that more updates will still be needed, as often fixing one thing leads to other things functioning differently. But for me, I’m glad Pathea and Team 17 are taking this game seriously. If you are looking for the list of the update, I’ve put it in here.
I’m not a Mario fan either. Never cared for the side-scrolling games. And I have no interest in the Mario Maker stuff. I haven’t tried the Mario RPGs or the Paper Marios. I did, however, enjoy Super Mario 64. I own, but never tried Mario 3D Land. The other successors on the consoles looked good, just never tried them. Hmmm, what about the sports games? I did like Mario Golf and Mario Tennis on the Gameboy. Maybe I’ll amend my first statement and go with the second one. 🙂
Ah, so it’s not Mario but the side scrolling you don’t like. Well, I’m with you on that. Whether Mario is in it or not, I can not get myself to actively play Platformers. And as I haven’t a competitive bone in my body, sports games aren’t for me either.
I’m not a Mario fan either…platformers and side scrolling games do nothing for me so you are not alone!! We are not all suppose to play the same games…so I think we are all ok!! Game on everyone!!
Lol, couldn’t have said it better myself!
