Life is expensive enough as it is…so when there’s a chance to play free video games, I’m all for it! So let’s play some more fun games that won’t break the bank! Here are two totally free games for your enjoyment: Dogwalk and Island Saver. And be sure to check out our other articles with two free games, too!
Fun Games that Won’t Break the Bank: DOGWALK
I played the totally free game Dogwalk by Blender Studio. According to the game’s Steam page, “The project was used to test and improve both Blender and the Godot Game Engine”. It’s a short, super fun and wholesome adventure starting simply a boy and his dog.
There is no text in this game. You begin with the boy building a snowman with his huge, friendly dog nearby. The snowman is missing 3 items – a shovel, a nose and a hat. The game consists of the boy walking his dog while looking for those items. When the boy is close to one of the items he says “whoa” and exclamation marks appear over his head. Then it’s up to you to help him reach the item.
There are some areas where you can see the items you need, but you can’t get to them directly. It’s fun to try and find a different way in. Sometimes the dog drags the boy just a little too fast, and the boy gets tired. But the best parts are when the boy and the dog stop and rest. The boy pets the dog and then lays his head on his chest and emits the most peaceful sigh in the world. What a precious game.

Actually, though, it’s more like the dog is walking the boy!! He drags him around in his excitement! Sometimes the boy actually gets dragged through grass and bushes. When that happens, he says “ah” and sometimes even “ow” but soon he is smiling again! Occasionally, the boy gets stuck in the sno,w and the dog digs him out. That’s very sweet. The boy also seems to have a never-ending supply of dog treats to give to his big friend.
The graphics in the game are interesting. They were crafted from handmade paper models then scanned and recreated to be used in the game. When you finish the game, make sure you watch the credits. Or maybe even watch them before playing. There’s some great footage of the team creating the game including making the paper models.

The terrain consists of a beautiful wooded area with birds that fly away when you get too close, trees, fences, a meandering creek with a bridge and a frozen pond. The graphics on the frozen pond are really cool, you can even see fish swimming under the ice.

There is no map to hold but there are a couple of maps of the area on signposts in the game. I didn’t find them to be very helpful. I noticed some YouTube players completed the game in under 10 minutes. I play slowly and get lost a lot so I spent an hour playing! It was such a joyful experience that it was not a problem though!
The game has a beautiful soundtrack and is a pure pleasure to play. The boy and dog obviously love each other; there are plenty of smiles, hearts, licks and cuddles. Thank you so much to Blender Studio for letting us have this game for free. It’s a real treasure
Fun Games that Won’t Break the Bank: Island Saver

Island Saver was commissioned by NatWest Bank to teach money concepts to children, but it’s also a lot of fun for adults! You suck up litter with a vacuum-like tool and blast gunk off surfaces with a water gun-type tool. The cleaner you make the island, the more cool animals and plants you unlock.
As part of the gameplay, you collect money by recycling and cleaning the island, and you pay taxes to pay for bridges to other locations. Neat! You also play a mini game where you exchange foreign currency and try to maximize your profits. The plants and animals you unlock are zany, colorful and fun!

There is some very simple combat. Sometimes tar-like creatures appear and try to spread their muck back into your clean world. All you have to do is blast them with water, and they disappear. I’m not very good at combat, but I can do this!
I played the base game for 20 hours. If you want to play more there are 2 DLC packages for $ 5 each. I was going to buy them too, but I found after 20 hours I was ready for something different. Your mileage may vary!! I definitely plan to play it again, it was really fun!
