Different terrain to chose from

Hotel Magnate

In Hotel Magnate you build, design and manage your own hotel. With the ultimate goal of creating a thriving hotel, your aim is to attract a substantial clientele and secure your place as a top-rated business. The game has a tutorial to walk you through how to play. It does a decent job of telling you the important steps to build a thriving hotel and run it.

Empty Lot

You start out on an empty lot with nothing but grass to build on. Landscape and create your dream hotel, or perhaps you want to build a small inn or bed and breakfast to give your guests a great night’s stay before a business meeting in a conference suite.

Begin with the basics and build some walls and a door to make a reception for the customers, then add some bedrooms and such. At the start of the game, there isn’t that much furniture to choose from to add to your hotel. However, as you play the game and your hotel ratings improve, you move up the rating levels in the game. Each rating level you pass unlocks more facilities, furniture and decorating items to your inventory.

Hire staff and look after guests

Hire Staff

When you have built some rooms you hire staff to run your hotel. Staff can be trained to make them the best in the business. But you need to be sure to pick the right people for the various positions, as each will have different skill levels and wage demands. Each staff member has their own panel of stats to help keep you on top of their good points and bad points.

Constructing is Easy

Building your hotel and spacing out the rooms is so easy to do. The developer seems to have put a lot of work into making sure that the building is fun and easy. Click on a spot on the grid on the ground and drag the mouse and the wall is built. You can also make walls with curves if you are feeling adventurous.

Then you can add bedrooms, bathrooms, pubs, restaurants and lots more facilities for your guests in your new hotel. By clicking on a room you have constructed you can designate it to be a specific room such as bedroom, bathroom and so on.

Customization

Once you’ve laid down the foundations, it’s time to pick out the decor. Your decor can be as calm or as wacky as you want it to be. There are a lot of customization choices in the game, with plenty of colours to choose from for flooring and walls.

This is the portion of the game I enjoyed the most after building, you can use your creative flair. You also get to customize everything right down to the furniture and decorations and even what colour you would like the furniture and decorations to be.

Plenty of choice in colours

Early Access Game

Since this is an early access game the build of the game is still being improved upon and more stuff is added to the game. You can’t build two-storey hotels at the moment but hopefully, that will be implemented at a later date in an update to the game.

Graphically the game has quirky art that reminds me of similar games in the genre from years ago. There is nothing wrong with the look of the game as it is eye-catching. I did have a problem with the UI being far too small when I started the game, I found I could adjust it in the setting and make it bigger which solved it.

Work in progress

Conclusion

Hotel Magnate is a great addition to the management, tycoon genre on Steam. For players that enjoy creating their own hotel, this should be a game on their wishlist or even better, buy it. Hopefully, the developers will continue to improve the game and add more decorations and facilities to it.

Final Verdict: I Like It a Lot  I like it a lot
