Secrets of Velendar Castle – Escape Room is an escape room-style game about a young man who gets captured. You must find your way out of the dungeon and through a series of complex puzzles to escape.
Thrown Into A Dungeon, One Way Out
The story of Secrets of Velendar Castle – Escape Room is pretty basic; you are thrown into prison by the king after he sets fire to your home and kills your mother. You find yourself in a cell, alone with a single puzzle that you will need to solve to get out.

You interact with the world in a very basic way. You can click on things to interact with them or take a closer look sometimes, but there is no other way to touch or move things. So it’s basically a world of you and the puzzles. It feels a lot like a real escape room in that way.

Once you solve the first puzzle, you will move onto a bigger area with several puzzles inside. There are a handful of unique areas, each with a pile of overlapping puzzles that need to all be solved before the next room can be accessed. Secrets of Velendar Castle – Escape Room doesn’t have any collectibles or anything like that, and all the achievements are linked to completing the different rooms of the castle.
The Pros and Cons of Secrets of Velendar Castle – Escape Room
Secrets of Velendar Castle – Escape Room is a short game with about 3 to 4 hours of gameplay, depending on how good you are at solving the puzzles. Each room contains several puzzles, and there is a specific order you need to complete them in. Most of the puzzles in the room will be dependent on the solving of a previous puzzle, but Secrets of Velendar Castle – Escape Room is not great at pointing to which puzzle needs to be first.
This could be seen as either a positive or a negative; if you enjoy the sort of unknown order that real escape rooms give you, it makes for an interesting challenge. I enjoyed the extra layer of difficulty over the puzzles, but some may not.

Secrets of Velendar Castle – Escape Room is a pretty game with some beautiful cutscenes. It has great music and sound design, beautiful levels, and interesting puzzles. It took a bit for me to figure out sort of how the developers think and how the puzzles were put together, but once I got in the groove, most of the puzzles were fine. There were a couple that were so esoteric that I wouldn’t have gotten through them without a hint, but not many.
The hint system was also fine; it gave you information without giving too much away. Overall, it was a lot of fun with mostly interesting puzzles. However, the ending was a little bit lackluster.

In the end, you face a moral dilemma: you need to choose between two different endings. It’s a single choice that leads you there, one that is made at the very end of the game. There is a “good” choice and an “evil” choice, I guess. But there is emotional weight in one direction and not the other. I’m trying to be vague so I don’t spoil the ending, but I can’t imagine ever choosing the first option; it would have made no sense at all given what we know about the hero and the story thus far.

Conclusion
Overall, Secrets of Velendar Castle – Escape Room was fine. The puzzles were good; there were only two where I looked at the hint for it and thought “I never would have figured that out!” The visual style and sound were great, and the game is fun to move around in. I didn’t like the ending choice, but it was interesting to have that choice at all.
If you enjoy escape room-type puzzles, and you are looking for a quick title to puzzle over for a few hours, Secrets of Velendar Castle – Escape Room is a great choice.
Final Verdict: I Like it.
