Tailside: Cozy Cafe Sim is an RPG game by solo developer Coffee Beans Dev; I’ve had a chance to play the demo, which is available to download during the Steam Next Fest.
The demo for Tailside: Cozy Cafe Sim offers a peek into what looks to be a relaxing and heartwarming experience. From the moment you step into the world of Tailside, the cosy vibes are undeniable. As you take on the role of a cafe owner, you’ll discover that running your coffee shop isn’t just about serving drinks; it’s about building relationships and adding your personal touch to every aspect of your cafe.
Fun Coffee-Making Mechanics in Tailside: Cozy Cafe Sim

In the demo, you’ll master the basics of coffee-making by preparing three different types of coffee: espresso, macchiato, and latte. Each order requires attention to detail, and the satisfaction of brewing the perfect cup adds a nice touch to the tasks.
When Tailside: Cozy Cafe Sim is released, the game teases future upgrades, suggesting that more types of coffee and advanced brewing options will unlock as you grow your cafe.
Personalise Your Cozy Cafe

Customisation also plays a role in Tailside: Cozy Cafe Sim; as you progress through the levels, you earn furniture allowing you to design a cafe that reflects your style.
In the demo, you’re given access to a limited set of decor options, but even with just a few choices, it’s fun to see how changing the look of the cafe creates a different atmosphere. It’s easy to imagine how, in the full game, customisation options will let players create a space that feels like their own.
Meet the NPC’s

Trailside is home to some cute animal characters. In the demo, I encountered two NPCs, each of whom seemed to have their own personalities and tips to help me along my short journey. The interactions, while brief, hint at a deeper narrative to uncover in the full version of the game. Plus, the tiny customers who come in for their coffee orders are cute, and the game will emphasise building relationships with the locals.
Smooth Performance Across Devices

The demo for Tailside: Cozy Cafe Sim ran well on my different devices. Whether I played it on my laptop or my Steam Deck, the game performed smoothly without any noticeable frame drops or issues. The pixel art and relaxing soundtrack are a perfect match for both platforms, making it ideal for playing during a coffee break, no matter where you are.

Final Thoughts
Overall, the Tailside: Cozy Cafe Sim demo provides a nice glimpse of what’s to come. The combination of cosy cafe management, NPC interactions, and customisation makes it an enjoyable and relaxing experience.
A fundraiser for Tailside: Cozy Cafe Sim is planned to launch on October 23rd, 2024. The campaign will cover development costs until the game is released on Early Access and includes additional features through stretch goals. As a special thank you for your early support, the developer, Coffee Beans Dev, will include an exclusive woodland-themed decor set, pet, and main character colour, which will be available only through this campaign.
It will be interesting to see how the full game expands on these concepts. You can find the Tailside: Cozy Cafe Sim Steam page here, so why not try the demo yourself?
