The Gameplay of Unboxathon

In Unboxathon, we start by popping bubbles- popping enough bubbles allows us to purchase and open boxes. In the boxes, we find various items we can keep or sell. We earn coins, which we can use to buy upgrades and unlock new boxes and features. On top of the screen, we can see how many dollars we’ve earned so far.

The upgrades can be anything from increasing the number of bubbles to pop to unlocking bombs and several boxes at once. We can also upgrade the boxes themselves, resulting in better-quality items that sell for a higher value. At a later stage, we can sell whole unopened boxes for even more coins. Fulfilling quests, such as selling a certain number of boxes, earns us crystals, which can also be used for upgrades.

Unboxathon features cute pixel-art visuals and cheery music, making it the perfect escape for a few minutes. The animation of opening a box is adorable, and there’s a sense of curiosity about what the next object will pop out. You can decide for yourself what to sell and what to keep. That being said, I grew bored relatively quickly, but I am not all that used to playing clicker and collection-type games, so I might not be the correct audience for this one.

Some Other Things

Unboxathon has the basic audio and video settings. The game has Steam achievements, but no Trading cards yet.

Conclusion

If you like collecting things and opening packages and clicker games, Unboxathon might be the game for you – it is a well-made game, with a pleasant soundtrack and enough achievements to keep you going for a while.
