Games to Binge During Your Holiday Vacation

If you are getting some time off at the end of the year for the holidays, you might be thinking about some video games you could pick up and pour some of that free time into.

Games to Binge During Your Holiday Vacation

While a whole bunch of great games came out this year, you might be looking for some suggestions on games you might love. Here are some things to binge during the quiet hours at the end of 2024.

DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake

Genre: JRPG
Platforms: Switch, PC, PlayStation, Xbox
How Long to Beat?: 50-60 hours

If you love old JRPGs and have a ton of time to dump into one this holiday season, the DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake is a highly rated one to choose from. It’s a classic sort of hero’s journey that you will go on, collecting friends to battle with you along the way. This is one of the best-rated games of the year (including here on Ladies Gamers), and it’s a great way to spend Christmas.

Great God Grove

Genre: Puzzle
Platforms: Switch, PC, Xbox
How Long to Beat?: 6-8 hours

Great God Grove is one of those games that is super hard to describe until you see it played. You have to capture words from one person’s speech bubble to transfer to another’s in order to solve puzzles. It’s weird, it’s wacky, it’ll keep you entertained for the entirety of the 6 to 8 hours it will take you to complete it. If you like strange games with unique premises, you should check out Great God Grove for sure.

WEBFISHING

Genre: Casual
Platforms: PC (Steam only)
How Long to Beat?: 14-16 hours

If you love the fishing mini-games in Animal Crossing and similar titles, you will probably love WEBFISHING. It’s goofy and casual and features some of the most fun parts of AC games, along with a vibrant online community. You can fish together, doodle, mess around, and play games together. If you like casual games and are looking for something stress-free and funny to play with friends you won’t get to see in person this holiday season, WEBFISHING is a good choice for you.

UFO 50

Genre: Arcade
Platforms: PC (Steam only)
How Long to Beat?: 50-200 hours

How do I even describe UFO 50? It’s 50 different games, all put into one game. Each game is polished and fun in a variety of genres. Some are shooter-type games, some are puzzles, and all of them are pixelated, arcade-style fun. There is an overarching sort of plot that weaves through all 50 games, but you need to figure out those secrets while battling against the massive amount of hours it will take to figure the whole thing out for yourself.

Little Kitty, Big City

Genre: Puzzle, Exploration
Platforms: PC, Switch, Xbox
How Long to Beat?: 2-3 hours

If you don’t have a whole lot of time this holiday season but are looking for an adorable adventure, Little Kitty, Big City is my number one pick. It’s pretty short, but it is also very, very sweet.

You are a black cat who has gotten lost in the big city, and you need to climb buildings, parkour over rooves, and interact with all manner of city critters to get yourself back home. If you are looking for something funny and heartwarming to play or watch with the whole family, you can’t lose with Little Kitty, Big City.

Sea of Stars

Genre: RPG
Platforms: Switch, PlayStation, Xbox
How Long to Beat?: 26-30 hours

Sea of Stars was the darling indie game of 2023. If you haven’t had the time to pick it up until now, you should definitely take some time this December to dive in, especially now that it has some DLC to go with it. The story follows three friends who have promised as children to adventure together.

As adults, they are thrown into a terrifying and long journey, fulfilling their promises to one another in a beautiful way. When I finished this game the first time and realized I’d gotten the bad ending, I went out of my way to make sure I got the best ending instead!
