Mahjong Fest: Sakura Garden is a tile-matching puzzle game, developed and released by Star Mill B.V. in 2026.
The Premise of Mahjong Fest: Sakura Garden
In Mahjong Fest: Sakura Garden, we compete in tile-matching puzzles and collect stars and coins. The stars we use to renovate a decrepit Japanese garden. The faster we complete a level, the more stars we get. The maximum is three stars per level. We can clear the waterfall, construct bridges, build shops, and restore an ancient castle. The coins we earn can be used to purchase power-ups, helping us complete levels more easily.
In each level, we have a pile of mahjong tiles that we need to sort by matching them in pairs. Each pair disappears, clearing the way to match the tiles beneath. We have different power-ups we can use, such as automatic pairing or shuffle. In terms of difficulty, I rarely needed to use one of the power-ups.
The game has about 20 free levels, and we can purchase a DLC with more levels, bringing up the total to 132 puzzle levels and allowing us to completely renovate the garden. Every few levels, we have a hidden-object scene or a spot-the-difference puzzle.
Some Other Things
Mahjong Fest: Sakura Garden has all the basic audio and video settings. The developers have disclosed the use of AI-generated content for some elements of the game’s artwork and text. The game has no Steam achievements or trading cards.
Conclusion
While in itself Mahjong Fest: Sakura Garden is an okay game, it is really nothing to write home about. It runs fine; the gameplay is as described on its Steam page, but really, that’s it. Still, if you are in the mood for some low-stakes puzzling, you could enjoy it, or at least the free portion of it.
