We’re always on the lookout for nice Kickstarters campaign. And another very interesting Kickstarter Sunnyside has caught our attention.
Sunnyside is a farming JRPG with modern gameplay and deep social sim aspects. The developers, Rainy Games plan to include farming, growing crops and caring for animals. Crafting, cooking and mining are also going to be part of the gameplay, with exploration, fishing and combat all making the grade. Let’s have a look and see what the game is about.
Farming and Crops
The main focus of the game will be on farming, with seasons and 10 different types of crops to grow in each season. You will be able to plant trees and even purchase additional land and specialise it for a particular type of farming.
Other than crops and trees, flowers are another important type of vegetation you can grow on your farm. Some of them can be sold for a considerable profit in the local shop. You will be able to find rare items when you are exploring, and some of these items can then be grown on your farm too. Or you can use the Seed-maker to produce more seeds for your farm to grow.
The crops you grow on your farm in Sunnyside will have lots of different variations. And by adding different kinds of compost to the soil never you could get a different variety of plant to grow.
Farming Machinery
Farming machinery makes an appearance in Sunnyside, machinery to make life on the farm that little bit easier. Machines such as grain mills, wine barrels, beer makers and so on.
Your farming machinery isn’t only used for crops, you will be able to craft or buy a variety of machinery that will process your animal products into more valuable items. These will include machines like a Milk Pasteurizer, Cheese Kettle, and a Yoghurt Maker.
Upgrades and Animals
Of course, all your farm buildings can be upgraded through time if you put the work in. Upgrades to your barn and buildings or upgrades such as pieces of equipment like an automatic food dispenser for your animals. Always a handy thing to have on a farm!
All sorts of animals will be available so you can build a large farm. Alpacas, Sheep, Cows, Pigs, and Chickens are some of the animals the developers have planned for the game.
Farm animals aren’t the only animals in Sunnyside as the developers plan to include some pets for your farm. You can own, cats, dogs, owls and horses and you’ll be able to pet all the animals. Best of all you can teach your pets such as the dog to feed the chickens or help with everyday tasks on the farm to lighten your workload.
Exploring
On your exploration outside your farm, you might come across wild animals some of which you can befriend. The wild animals will then provide you with rare loot from time to time as a thank-you. The animal’s types include Foxes, Wolves, Rabbits, Squirrels, Bears, and Raccoons.
Sunnyside will feature an open world map for you to explore, with the changing of the seasons the environment in Sunnyside changes to. And Sunnyside will have a full season and weather system.
Crafting
Rainy Games plan on including an extensive and customisable crafting system in the game, similar to the crafting in Animal Crossing and other games. You’ll receive recipes for crafting items such as decorations for your house and clothes for yourself, farming equipment and machinery.
Some of the items needed for crafting are rare and can only be found through exploring the local mines. Where you can find loads of rare gemstones in the depths of the mines to give you resources for crafting.
But beware the mine can be a dangerous place so you will need to go prepared and be equipped with either a sword, axe, bow, or a magical weapons to defend yourself against the creatures in the mine.
Cooking
No farming life simulation game would be complete without cooking, and Sunnyside is no different in that respect. You will discover or learn many different cooking recipes to cook. The town of Sunnyside even holds a cooking competition multiple times a year for you to take part in and maybe even win!
Bachelors and Bachelorettes
If you want a bit of love in your life then Sunnyside can provide that too. You will have a choice of bachelors and bachelorettes with different preferences to get to know. Rainy games want to represent the LGBTQ community through their NPC’s.
Once you get to know the NPC’s in Sunnyside they will send you text messages to your in game mobile and maybe even call and invite you to private groups and hangouts, sounds like fun doesn’t it.
NPC’s will all have their own schedule in the game and routines. With NPC quest lines also a feature of the game. Completing the NPC quest lines will help you get closer to them, understand their struggle and their spark in life.
Mobile and Mobile Apps
Mobile apps make an appearance in Sunnyside for your mobile, you will have a message app and a camera to take snaps with. An animal care app to keep track of the animals you own on your farm and much more.
RainyGames Developers of Sunnyside
The developers for Sunnyside, RainyGames, are a small international indie development team. A Kickstarter campaign is underway to fund the game for release on PC the in the first half of this year, with plans for the console release of the game to release later in the year.
Sunnyside has been in development since June of 2020, with all the programming and 3D art done by Siavash Shahlaei and writing and world-building done by Lauryn Hammett. Music will provide a nice atmosphere for you to enjoy your farm in. Rainy games are working with Matthew Payne Thompson. Matthew has a Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Writing & Production and extensive experience in writing and arranging music to back it.
Rainy games are planning on releasing Sunnyside on the following systems, PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store), Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One
