Sweet Dreams Cafe is a match-three game similar to Candy Crush and Bejeweled. You complete levels to get new items for your brand-new bakery.
The Gameplay and Story of Sweet Dreams Cafe
The story of this match-three game is pretty simple: you have a new bakery, and it needs decorating. Once you complete a level, you earn points to add new items to the cafe, like countertops, flooring, seating, wall coverings, etc. You get to choose between three different styles: a kind of rustic look, a clean black-and-white look, and a cute set.
As you play, you can earn special powers to make completing levels easier. And unlike mobile offerings like Candy Crush, it doesn’t appear that there are or will be any microtransactions.

As you progress through the levels, more challenging interactions are added, like boxes that take multiple hits to break, coverings that need to be removed, and larger numbers of different macaroons that need to be broken. And everything is themed around this cute bakery, like the rolling pin power, the chocolates, and the desserts you serve up to customers.

The Pros and Cons of Sweet Dreams Cafe
Overall, Sweet Dreams Cafe is fine. There is nothing special about the story, music, and nothing original about the gameplay. It’s fun if you like this sort of thing, but don’t expect any innovative additions or a riveting plot. I liked that there were no microtransactions, but it made the items economy much more challenging. I am not super good at these types of games; I do like them a lot, I am just not super talented at playing them. So I rely heavily on items to help finish levels.
In Sweet Dreams Cafe, items are few and far between; you purchase them with coins, which is a very finite resource you get by completing levels. The levels get a little bit easier the more you fail, but sometimes you can just be stuck on a level for a long time with no way to skip it.

The items you can choose from are fine, but most of the sets don’t go very well together. So if you choose the black and white and red set for your front counter, you can’t really use the blue set for your display cases because they clash pretty badly. This led me to just pick the same type of option every time to make sure my cafe didn’t look ugly.
One thing that really irked me about the game is the hint system. It will blink a possible match every few seconds, regardless of whether or not you have changed levels. So sometimes, you load into a level and immediately have the game blinking hints at you. Hints that you cannot turn off, by the way.

There is a story to Sweet Dreams Cafe, but it’s fairly shallow. You have a pretty good idea of what is going to happen next, and the characters are all kind of one-note. If I had to describe Sweet Dreams Cafe in one word, it would be: mundane.
Final Thoughts
Sweet Dreams Cafe is fine. It’s not going to win any awards for originality, but if you like Candy Crush-type games and don’t want to pay to play, this is a good option for you. It’s match three in a way that you can’t spend money except for the $4 USD it costs to buy it.

Overall, it’s pretty fun, it’s cute, but it’s basically a clone of every other match-three game out there.
