In VacBot Simulator I controlled an automatic vacuum as it cleaned 5 different areas. It was very satisfying; if only real cleaning was this much fun!
The Look and Feel of VacBot Simulator
The graphics in VacBot Simulator were very realistic; I enjoyed my time playing. In the demo, I was able to clean a total of 5 areas that included a bathroom, bedroom and living room. The rooms were nicely decorated and very attractive once they were clean. VacBot Simulator does not have a musical soundtrack but there were different sounds that the cleaning tools made. The general vacuuming sound was a kind of scratching sound, it was very distinctive. I found it handy to be able to hear the sounds so I could be sure I was using the right one. It was a good feeling when a room was all clean!

The Gameplay in VacBot Simulator
The game began with a nice tutorial, which was called the Training Center. The game is a 3D open world, and the controls were pretty easy to use. I’ve played cleaning games before, and I like when I don’t have to master a whole bunch of complicated controls. Sometimes simpler is better, and the controls in VacBot Simulator were pretty simple. I thought the game was very soothing and the rooms I saw were very attractive. At least they were attractive once I finished cleaning them!

By the end of the demo, I was able to use two different speeds of vacuum as well as a mopping tool. I could also move my VacBot around with no tools being used. That’s a handy feature because, just like in real life, my battery would wear out after a while. I used more battery power when I was vacuuming so it saved on energy to be able to simply travel from room to room, not cleaning.
There were icons on the screen to show me the progress I had made, how long I had been cleaning in this level, my battery level and the amount of water in my mop. There was a recharging station in each level, and all I had to do was dock my vacuum in it to recharge and refill everything. I liked how I did not have to clean each area to 100% in order to have it be completed; I only had to reach 95%. Sometimes cleaning games can be very frustrating, making you search for that tiny, final piece of dirt. VacBot Simulator eliminates that frustration.

I learned it was harder and slower to clean carpets than bare floors, which actually makes a lot of sense. I also saw that as I went under objects, like chairs or beds, the objects became invisible so I could continue to search out the bits of dirt I needed to clean.

I had a button I could press to show me where all the dirt was. The graphic was even color coded, dark blue was the dirtiest of the dirt, light blue was average dirt and yellow was something I needed to mop up. There was a timer on the screen, but I didn’t have to pay any attention to it unless I wanted to try and finish a level quickly. There was no penalty for playing slowly and carefully. The gameplay even felt kind of zen to me.

Final Thoughts
There are many wonderful games that involve cleaning areas. I enjoy them all. VacBot Simulator will be a nice addition to the genre. The cleaning mechanics are easy to master, and the rooms I was cleaning were very attractive. It’s a calming, soothing game. It can be played slowly and meditatively, or you can try to beat your previous times. It’s up to you. The demo for VacBot Simulator autosaves so you can choose to stop whenever you want and get back to it later. I played it for a little over an hour, and I look forward to seeing all the nice rooms in the full version of the game.
