The Premise of Woodo
Woodo is a cozy puzzle game where we complete colorful wooden dioramas and learn the tale of Foxy, the fox, and Ben, the frog, and the beginning of their friendship during an unforgettable summer.
The Gameplay of Woodo
Woodo is a 3D puzzle game where we complete dioramas. On the side of the screen, we have the available parts we need to put in their rightful places. We can rotate the dioramas any way we want, and as we do, the parts rotate too. That helps because it shows the part’s orientation relative to our point of view. We can also zoom in and out of the pictures as needed. With each diorama, the game gets progressively more difficult, but luckily we also have a rechargeable hint button to show us where a piece should go.
In between levels, we can see the Village, where we can choose new levels or replay older ones.
There’s some variety when it comes to the dioramas themselves – some of them are straightforward dioramas. We complete them, get a bit of story time, and we can move on to the next level. In other cases, we have a whole episode told through a shifting diorama, where we complete stages of the same landscape or interconnected ones. In almost all of them, we get extra puzzles within the diorama – a spot we can zoom in and complete. Sometimes those little puzzles will unlock parts for the diorama. The mini puzzles are indicated with a magnifying glass. That said, it helps to look closely at the scenes. The dioramas are highly interactive, with many moving elements, doors and cupboards we can open, and things inside that are part of the larger puzzle. Within each diorama, we have complete freedom where to start and what to do. We can circle through the available pieces on the side and pick and choose which part of the diorama to start with.
Turning the diorama every which way helps you find new perspectives and hidden spots. If your diorama is the interior of a room, it helps to look at the exterior walls, too. Sometimes that’s the last piece of the puzzle.
The assembly is very tactile; it feels like a real puzzle. We can adjust the sensitivity of snapping pieces together in the settings. The game’s visual style is gentle and colorful, almost dream-like, with soft shapes and no sharp edges. The dioramas, the characters, everything looks like it’s hand-crafted from wood, sanded down to a smooth finish, and hence the name – Woodo. As we place elements, each scene slowly fills with color and comes to life. It also becomes more interactive, with cupboards opening and even characters reacting to the cursor. The soundtrack is cheery and well suited to the rest of the game. Ambient sounds, like birdsong, also add atmosphere. The characters are voiced as well.
The story feels almost ironic on first glance – the main character, Foxy, is someone very connected to technology and the Internet. She spends most of her life online, so being sent to a village for the summer is a real shock. There she meets Ben, and a friendship blossoms. Woodo tells the tale of a childhood summer, spent outside with its simple joys and everyday adventures. Besides Foxy and Ben, you’ll meet other funny, charming characters, and every tale is told with humor and joy.

Woodo has extensive video and audio settings. The game has Steam achievements, but no Trading cards yet.
Conclusion
Woodo is a cozy puzzle game, perfect for rainy days or in between work breaks. It stands out among other cozy games with its relaxing gameplay and gorgeous visuals. Woodo was one of my most anticipated releases for the year, and thankfully, it didn’t disappoint. I think I’ll keep recommending this game for years to come.
