Expected in Steam Early Access in February 2027, Luminids is a peaceful colony-building game from Cambridge-based solo developer Nick Jacob. Centred around tiny beings of light, the game invites players to create and nurture a thriving community in a world free from combat, failure states, and pressure. And after you have shaped the settlement from an overhead perspective you can then step into that same world in first person.

At the heart of Luminids are the creatures themselves. Each Luminid has a distinct personality and life story. They grow over time, form friendships, develop quirks, and discover their own place within the community. One may become an adventurous explorer, another the colony’s dedicated cook, while others simply find happiness by the water’s edge.
The journey begins with a single egg resting in a cradle beside the fire. One evening, a crack appears, a small light peeks through, and a new Luminid enters the world, ready to be named. From those humble beginnings, a small camp gradually evolves into a bustling village, complete with cosy homes and smoke drifting from chimney tops.
Daily life revolves around simple pleasures. When the bell rings, the Luminids gather around the table, and when night falls, they come together by the fire, their gentle glow lighting the darkness.

The recently released trailer, “One Light”, captures that spirit beautifully. Soon, a Kickstarter will go live for Luminids.
