CarGo!: Chaotic, Silly Fun

CarGo! is an arcade driving game focused on delivering goods around a bustling city as fast as possible to achieve that coveted 3-star rating. Whether you play solo or in a 4-player co-op, the game offers quick accessibility, making it an excellent choice for a game night with friends or family.

Deliver the Goods

The gameplay formula is straightforward yet engaging. Each level is a single-screen cityscape where your goal is to deliver packages to specified locations and earn money. Fast deliveries earn extra bonuses, but completing levels is not as simple as going from point A to point B. Often, you’ll need to transport specific resources to various depots to craft a final package before delivery, adding an extra layer of challenge. Managing time efficiently becomes key, as crafting takes precious seconds. This can turn into a balancing act of prioritizing deliveries and sacrificing bonuses just to get the job done before the clock runs out.

Road Works

To keep things unpredictable, levels feature hazards such as roadworks, rising bridges, and random obstacles that force you to change plans on the fly. This maintains a sense of urgency and excitement. In later levels, challenges like police chasing you if you speed too fast and incoming trains blocking your path demand quick thinking. The game thrives on these chaotic moments, where adapting on the spot is essential. Even when things go completely awry, there’s an addictive urge to retry and improve. Note, however, that progressing through the game requires earning a minimum number of stars, which might be a hurdle for more casual players.

Burn Rubber

The controls are straightforward but have a floaty feel. Basic commands include accelerating, reversing, and steering. You’ll switch between different vehicles, such as vans and high-speed race cars, which adds variety. The floaty mechanics, however, can cause your car to flip or veer out of control, requiring frequent corrections. While this may be dismissed as part of the fun in casual co-op sessions, dedicated players aiming for high scores might find it frustrating.

Graphics and Sound

The game features colourful, family-friendly visuals that complement its lighthearted gameplay. Cityscapes are impressively detailed, filled with buildings and moving traffic going about their day. The upbeat soundtrack keeps the atmosphere lively and complements the game’s chaotic nature.

Multiplayer Mayhem

The main draw for many players will be the co-op mode, which is available for local play. Steam Remote Play is an option, though results can vary. Playing with friends allows you to coordinate deliveries for a more strategic approach or embrace the chaos for a fun, unpredictable ride.

Conclusion: Jump in the Car

CarGo! is a quick, satisfying arcade experience, fun for solo runs or chaotic co-op sessions with friends and family. It’s easy to pick up, offering enjoyment for players of all skill levels. While the floaty controls may deter serious high-score chasers, the overall experience is fun and inviting. For a casual, lighthearted game night, CarGo! delivers. A free demo is available on Steam.
