Yet Another Find Objects Game?
Find Matt’s Cats is indeed another hidden-objects game, but saying so undersells what this awesome title brings to the table. It’s the most complete game in the genre I have ever come across – I spent almost 20 hours just on the medium difficulty levels. With a variety of levels, hiding spots, art, and gems to find, this is by far the longest I’ve played a game like this, and I had an amazing experience.

Finding the Objects
In Find Matt’s Cats, you will encounter 12 worlds with different themes, each containing 7 levels that can be played on easy, normal, or hard mode. Every level has a list at the bottom with all the objects you need to find, plus a count of gems and art collectables. There are many places to hide – inside buildings, underwater, behind objects – so poking around is necessary to discover those little secret spots and explore the level as a whole.

If an object is too difficult to find, the game offers three types of tips: which area the object is in, whether it’s inside or outside, and its exact location. The tips are not instantly available – you need to be patient and wait for the bar to load. Also, the exact-location tip is more “expensive,” costing three tip charges instead of one. This is a very interesting system, as it prevents players from spam-clicking tips to find items instantly, while also giving options for different kinds of players.
There are also some spot-the-difference levels, which are a refreshing change when you’re playing many levels in a row. They have a clever split-screen mechanic that follows your movement and zooms, and even adds a second cursor to help you track differences better. I really enjoyed that they mixed these levels in with the regular ones – it breaks the routine and forces you to take a new approach, making the gameplay more dynamic.

And if you think the levels are all there is, you would be wrong. Even the menu screen has little gems hidden for the player to find. And if you love being a completionist, Find Matt’s Cats has lots of achievements for you to unlock.
A Whole Storyline
Another thing to notice is how the characters – based on the developers themselves – tell a story about the game, their company, and even their own lives. This is a very personal and unique approach. As players, we feel much more connected to them than in any other game I’ve ever played. It really feels like we are talking directly to them, even giving feedback as they ask us about our experience.

This weird yet singular way of telling a story while we play is fascinating. I can’t tell if anything they say is real or not, but it certainly feels real. Real people with real problems, a studio figuring out development while facing challenges – it feels very authentic and surreal to experience while playing. To complement that, there’s even a friendship level system where you can check your level of friendship with each developer or character.
Some Flavour
I love how interactive the game is. All objects have unique sound effects and animations. You can scare birds from trees, change the music on the radio, make chickens jump, and even explode critters if you click too much. The sound effects are so unique and pleasant, even when they’re not remotely accurate to real animals or things. The fact that they chose not to represent real sounds makes it even more genuine, and it’s remarkably an excellent idea.

Also, the gems you collect during gameplay can be converted into new mascots, cursors, interfaces, and filters that you can apply in the options menu. The cursors even have different functions depending on their shape – from weapons to pencils, hands, and even leaves that help you find cards. This is such an intelligent way to implement a tiny store for players to spend their gems and unlock optional resources.
Conclusion
If you’re looking for a hidden-objects game and don’t know which one to pick, Find Matt’s Cats would be my top recommendation. Not only is it a very complete game in the genre, but it’s also one of the most unique and clever. This title offers many hours of guaranteed fun, exploration, and compelling characters telling an authentic story. The amount of details and little features the developer team managed to include while keeping the game’s essence is amazing. Find Matt’s Cats is a mandatory addition for any player addicted to hidden-object games.
