Flibbius McDoogle and the Mysterious Flying Machine is a 2025 adventure game developed and released by Unsigned Double Collective.

The Premise of Flibbius McDoogle and the Mysterious Flying Machine

In Flibbius McDoogle and the Mysterious Flying Machine, we play the eponymous tortoise, Flibbius McDoogle, who embarks on an adventure to find a mysterious flying machine on an unknown island. On the way, we’ll meet a slew of quirky characters, explore new lands, and solve fun puzzles.

Gameplay

Flibbius McDoogle and the Mysterious Flying Machine is a third-person point-and-click adventure game. We control Flibbius, who has just received a letter from his uncle pointing him to an island where a mysterious flying machine is waiting to be found. To get there and see it, we face a series of obstacles, ranging from making juice for a sleepy sea captain to building bridges and helping on a farm.

Controls are intuitive and minimal, utilizing WASD on the keyboard and the left mouse button for all interactions. We have an inventory system where items of the same type are stacked in the same slot, which helps save space. We can craft new items by combining them in the inventory.

We also have a journal where we can see our tasks. The game features a secret ‘Notes’ tab in the journal, which provides hints on what to do next. Since there are no levels or timers in the game, using the hints doesn’t have any negative consequences for us beyond advancing the story. Besides the usual point-and-click puzzles, we also have some mini-games here and there. There are no skip buttons for the mini-games, but they are simple enough that once you get the hang of it, you can easily pass them.

The World of Flibbius McDoogle and the Mysterious Flying Machine

Flibbius McDoogle and the Mysterious Flying Machine is a short, colorful, and adorable game. The characters are animals, each with its character and story. The introduction to the game has an almost cinematic feel, and it truly feels like our tortoise is embarking on a grand adventure, much like Bilbo Baggins. A helpful feature is that Flibbius doesn’t move like a tortoise, and even better, there is a run option. The playable areas are compact, and the distance between interactable elements isn’t significant. It makes the world a populated and alive place.

Some Other Notes

Officially, the Steam Deck status of Flibbius McDoogle and the Mysterious Flying Machine is unknown, but on its Steam page, the developers claim that it works great. The game features basic audio and graphic settings, as well as Steam achievements, but does not yet support trading cards.

The game also features a demo, allowing you to try it out before making a purchase.

Conclusion

Flibbius McDoogle and the Mysterious Flying Machine is a pleasant little surprise. It is very similar in style and story to one of my favorite games, A Short Hike, and it feels like the start of a series of games. If you are in the mood for a short, cozy game, you should try Flibbius McDoogle and the Mysterious Flying Machine

Final Verdict: Two Thumbs UpTwo thumbs up
