Grow: Song of the Evertree LadiesGamers

Grow: Song of the Evertree Preview

Many thanks to 505 Games and Stride PR for providing the preview code of Grow: Song of the Evertree.

Grow: Song of the Evertree is an upcoming adventure simulation game from developers Prideful Sloth and publishers 505 Games. Prideful Sloth also developed Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles which Yvonne reviewed back in 2018 and at the time I played as well.

Grow: Song of the Evertree

In Grow: Song of the Evertree you take on the role of the last Evertree alchemist in the World of Alaria. In times gone by Alaria was a bustling place of industry and commerce all helped along by Alchemy. Over time the world of Alaria has faded as The Withering took hold and consumed the land, leaving people to flee the cities.

The Evertree, which was once splendid, is now nothing more than a faded sapling that no one knows how to make grow or care for. The Evertree had and still has many worlds residing on its branches but these worlds have lost their splendour, much like the Evertree itself.

World of Alaria

Being the only alchemist left in the world it’s up to you to change the world for the better and bring the Evertree back to life in this gorgeous world-crafting sandbox, with life management and adventure elements.

I’ve had the chance to try out a preview build of the game on Steam. In the preview build, I got to customise my character before going adventuring in the game. The customising is pretty extensive, you can choose male, female, non-binary. And pick out the colour and style, shape of your character hair, face and body as well as pick a name the game generates for you or a name of your choice. You can even pick the sound of your character’s voice which was a new one on me. The clothes you pick for your character are not limited by gender either.

Coppertop and Book

After that, your introduced to Coppertop, a large talking pot, and a talking book aptly named Book. They take you through a short tutorial that tells you all about your role. They also give you the tools you will need for the job, an axe, mallet, sickle and a watering can.

You see, you will need all those tools as the Evertrees branches are home to individual worlds. It is up to you to look after the land and plant seeds. Clear debris, and cut down weeds, much like you do in Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley. All the caring for the land in the branches of the Evertree will heal the tree. Which, in turn, will bring the surrounding lands back to life. And this also unlocks new areas to take care of and explore.

Alchemist

The alchemy opportunities in Grow: Song of the Evertree come into play, through some trial and error you can make seeds. Planting the seeds will allow you to create unique worlds on the branches of the Evertree.

Using alchemy and growing worlds on the branches of the Evertree lead to building towns to house the characters who live on the Evertree. Get to know interesting and unique characters, listen to their stories, and help them when they need it. However, that’s not all the game has to offer, as it has caves to explore, puzzles to solve, flowers and minerals to collect, and bugs to catch.

Traveling on the back of a Beast

To move between the branches of the Evertree you are introduced to a large winged beast. I named my flying beast Kazumi, the game suggested the name and I liked it so I went with that. You can however pick a name of your own making.

The flying beast, just like every area you visit in the game, is amazing looking. The colours of the world just pop out of the screen at you making the world inviting and welcoming. This is a game that folk who like to spend their time doing a bit of exploring, gathering, gardening and building houses for residents will really enjoy.

Buy the Game to Help Plant Some Trees

You can wishlist the game on Steam, and by doing so you’ll be helping the community to unlock additional benefits and achieve different tiers before game release. Prideful Sloth and or 505 Games are planning on planting trees for each of the benefit tiers met.

When planning this wishlist campaign we considered the many things we could offer our community: game features, discounts, physical items, etc. but we thought that Grow: Song of the Evertree speaks of the delicate relationship we have with nature and how our personal actions can have a positive impact on others by taking care of the environment. So, for Grow: Song of the Evertree we decided that we would love to plant trees for everybody’s benefit. So, on top of some cool game features we are investigating and possible release discounts we will be planting trees depending on the final number of live wishlists the game has on Steam the day before release.

Grow: Song of the Evertree is due to release on November, 16th on Steam for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One.
