The Premise of Hanako’s Flower Shop
In Hanako’s Flower Shop, we play as Hanako, a young woman who takes over her grandpa’s famous flower shop and crafts bouquets using the language of flowers.

Gameplay
Hanako’s Flower Shop is a cozy coming-of-age visual novel with resource management elements. To create the beautiful bouquets the shop is famous for, we have to plant and cultivate flowers or collect them in the forest. We also need to listen closely to our customers’ stories, hopes, and dreams and find how to turn them into meaningful bouquets using the language of flowers.
Crafting our bouquets is a central part of the game. To do that, we talk to our customers and choose flowers that reflect their wishes. We have a transcript of the conversation on the top of the screen, and we can highlight words and phrases that would be helpful. Once we close the transcript, we can see and use what we’ve highlighted. Each flower has its meaning. Once we finish the bouquet, we can try to sell it. If the flower combination is incorrect, the game will gently offer you an alternative option. You can still choose to sell your original bouquet – in that case, the customer will say something along the lines, such as that the flowers aren’t exactly what they had in mind. There will be no adverse consequences.

Besides arranging bouquets, running the shop includes procuring flowers by caring for the backyard garden. We can buy seeds or already-grown flowers, which will be delivered the next day. The farming portion of the game is delightfully simplified—we plant flowers and then harvest them. Depending on the type of flower, the growing time also varies.
Besides planting and buying flowers, we can also collect them. Walking around the forest, we can collect up to 7 flowers in our basket. We can also ask our neighbors for help gathering flowers for us.
Besides tasks, Hanako’s Flower Shop also incorporates in-game breaks. We can listen to the radio or take a snack break and purchase additional snacks from the candy store at any time. The snacks and the breaks also help us keep our happiness high.
At the end of the day, as Hanako goes to sleep, we get a cute animation of sheep jumping over her bed.

Some Other Things
The game is upfront about gathering data to improve future user experience. You can turn it off at the beginning of the game, and should you change your opinion, you can enable it at any point from the settings menu. In Settings, you can also find basic audio and game settings, such as the language of the text and voiceovers, windowed or full screen, and text settings. You can also adjust the volume for each character individually, as well as the ambient sound, the in-game radio, and the general sound.
Hanako’s Flower Shops has Steam achievements, but no Trading cards yet. Also, there is a demo on Steam.
The game also warns that the story includes themes of loss and grief.
Conclusion
Hanako’s Flower Shop is a beautiful, cozy visual novel about building relationships and arranging flower bouquets. It features lush, hand-drawn art in anime style and a whole world full of well-crafted characters. If you like visual novels and flower arranging without timers and stress, you’ll love Hanako’s Flower Shop.
Final Verdict: I Like it a Lot
